Introduction
==========
Although Daz content artists strive to make everything as simple and easy to use as possible, one area which still requires patience and learning on the part of the 3D artist in Daz is dForce. But it's worth it. As you can see from my product renders and those of others, given enough patience and determination almost any effect you can imagine is possible. This product was conceived with dForce as the determinant factor in how your render will turn out.
dForce is not for the point and click 3D hobbyist. It requires a little love of your craft and a desire to make something which catches the eye and makes people ask "How did he DO that?" (no slight is intended toward female 3D artists by my use of "he", it's just that I have to make a decision or get bogged down in pronouns which even this explanation invites, so bear with me). To remedy or at least ameliorate the situation I have created three basic presets of the product for large, medium and small G8F characters. This will at least get you in the door and frankly, for most simple poses, very little adjustment will need to be made. But we're not here to be simple, are we? I thought not.
Please read the information below thoroughly. It should give you a very good head start. As always, if you have any questions or need a little help in using any of my products, I'm just an email or PM away. I'm always glad to assist my customers and exchange information with anyone about any product.
What's Included
===============
A negligee.
A pair of tap pants.
Three Iray materials; "Shaggin' Sherbet", "Poppin' Cherry" and "Lickin' Lime".
Three dForce presets - "Buxom", "Normal" and "Petite"
A Note About Textures
=====================
These material presets are saved with varying degrees of opacity (depending on how each material handles light). In general, the default material cutout opacity is enough to allow a little bit of light through - about 75 or 80 percent. This can be changed in the Surfaces tab, of course, to suit your situation. For the negligee, the pertinent surface is "Body". For the panties, two surfaces - crotch and Tap_Pant_Material are the ones to adjust. The opacity is completely up to your taste, however, so have fun!
There are texture files available for use in the Runtime folder which I do not use in the product renders or indeed even load by default. There is an ambient occlusion and a specular for each texture, which you may wish to use on your renders. You won't need to make one of your own unless you have your own way of creating and using those images.
About Morphs
============
The Panties:
Crotch Left, Crotch Right, Crotch Up-Down -- Pretty self explanatory.
Mons Roomier -- This one defeats any poke through you may experience in the mons pubis area after running a simulation.
Panty Thickness -- A push modifier, it shows up with the other morphs. It is highly effective in correcting any poke through caused by going to High Resolution after posing and simulating. It's best to set this to "0" before running dForce.
The Negligee:
Negligee Thickness -- This is a very powerful tool that should be used post-simulation to correct for any poke through. The morphs listed below will correct for specific areas on their own, however, if you use this one first, you can use the below morphs in a negative value to greatly enhance the fit of the Negligee. Note that you should turn this morph to "0" value before running dForce simulations, then dial it to what is necessary in your opinion after the simulation is complete.
Pre-Sim Large Breast Fix -- This morph should be applied BEFORE running your simulation. It is designed to overcome the "underboob" issue with Genesis figures who have large breasts. I find that around 50% is usually fine. Your characters may require more or less, depending on their shape and breast size. Note that for standard Genesis 8 breasts, you shouldn't need to apply this morph at all. Try it out on your character to see what suits your taste.
Post-Sim Nipple Adjustment -- Some characters have more prominent nipples than others, and this morph was designed to allow you the freedom to adjust for nipples in the event of poke-thru after high resolution is applied (that reminds me, although the garment loads by default at High Resolution, you should change it to Base Resolution before running the simulation, if you plan to do so at all). Again, as the name makes clear, you should use this morph to correct AFTER running any simulation. In cases where you want a really snug fit around your character's nipples, you can turn off limits and shrink this to a negative value of say, -60%. If you do this in conjunction with the Thickness morph, you'll be pleased out how defined the negligee can be in the nipple area.
Post-Sim Breasts Roomier -- One area that typically has a few issues with Daz clothing on large breasted models is the half of the breast below the nipple, and on both sides. This morph was designed to correct for this once the simulation is complete and High Resolution is applied. Again, NOTE that the "Thickness" morph does a very good job of making this and other morphs unnecessary for purposes of correction. As with the Nipple Adjustment, once you have applied the Thickness morph (run it up to .15-.25, depending on your circumstances), you can actually use a NEGATIVE value on this morph to get a very snug fit around the bottom of the breasts.
Note On The dForce Settings
===================================
You may find that you need or want to adjust these dForce settings for a given look. The settings I saved to the garments by default are designed to give a more or less trouble free simulation and to give the fabric as flimsy and sheer a reaction as possible without distortion. Since many artists seem to like to run dForce simulations from a time line, the Friction of the Top Hem Surface of the negligee is set very high. This is because in my experience, timelines tend to exaggerate some effects. If you're running a simulation from a memorized pose and "Current Frame Only" I recommend dialing the Friction for the Top Hem way back to about .8 or so. The product is saved with this limit set to 5 maximum.
NOTE: If you happen to use either of my SBH products, "Vellus by Causam" or "Bikini Hair For Golden Palace 8", you should HIDE the asset in the Scene Tab to make it invisible BEFORE running any simulation. The hairs will influence and retard the result of the sim if you don't, and possibly cause the garment to 'explode'. You can unhide it once the sim finishes.
TIPS
====
Friction And Expansion-Contraction Settings For The Negligee 'Top Hem' Surface
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your character has fairly standard size breasts, and/or her nipples are not large, you should not need to change the friction for the Top Hem in the dForce simulation settings in the "Surfaces" tab. However, this setting along with Expansion-Contraction Ratio is the very influential for negligee garment, as they define just how low the negligee slides during a simulation. This all depends on the pose, the physics (is there a wind node, for instance), the character's shape and etc. There is no way to provide a specific, descriptive dForce surface definition for every contingency, so be prepared to tweak things a little bit with these two settings on this surface.
dForce STATIC Surfaces
----------------------
If you plan to have your character interact with furniture in your render, it is important that the cushions, mattress, (or whatever) have been set up with a dForce STATIC surface. Then set the collision offset on that surface to something like .5 or higher. This makes sure that the object will not intersect with the garment in the simulation. You'll need to experiment with the setting. For instance, I find that soft items like cushions which are set to collide with my character work well with .5 and smoothing enabled prior to starting the sim. The result for something like a hard chair will be different, as this will not "give" when your character makes contact with it. I won't pretend to tell you what to try in that instance, only to make you aware of the STATIC surface and the collision offset so that you can easily learn what works best for you.
Pre-Sim Large Breast Morph
---------------------------
I find that it's best not to turn this morph to maximum the first time you try it on a character. I usually run it to 50% and simulate the scene the first time to see what happens. Usually that value is sufficient.
Negligee Lineage
----------------
The negligee in this set is an updated version of the "I Dream Strapless Sheer Camisole" product. Specifically, I got rid of the diamond shaped polygons and replaced them with quads. This allows for a better UV and it seems to fit well enough. It also responds to dForce better this way. An ancillary benefit is that the surface names for this negligee are exactly the same as the older Camisole. This means that you can swap any material presets or dForce presets between the camisole and this negligee without muss or fuss. Just select it and then activate the camisole texture you want! It works both ways, so you're really getting an enhancement of both products by buying this one if you already own the Strapless.
My Work Flow (Example)
----------------------
When setting up renders using the PJs, this is the most efficient way I've found. I first load the included Wearable preset which fits both pieces to the character. Then I do the posing I want. Then I'll run a quick simulation to see how the garments are going to react with the rest of the scene besides the character (if she's lying on a bed, for example). Once I am satisfied that the dForce settings and Pre-Sim breast morph are working as expected, I make sure that the product is at base resolution and run the sim a final time. Then I change it to High resolution and adjust the nipples and other morphs as necessary or desireable. At that point I begin adjusting lighting, opacity, etc.
