Pattern 1742 Long Land Musket Type 2 for DAZ Studio 3D Model
Presented for your consideration is a second version of the venerable Pattern 1742 Long Land Musket. As the product is free and shares many features and textures with the previous version, it is offered as a second model users can add to the library without excessive storage strain. This version is closer to the pattern as originally specified by the Board of Ordnance with a revised trigger guard, greater wood carving detail around the lock, and retention of the earlier ramrod pipes - though it has the brass fore end cap and iron rammer that made its way into these guns later in their service life. Note that the wooden rammer of the Queen Anne period musket will work with this gun but might require a bit of positioning and tweaking upon initial loading.
As with all previous weapon offerings, the textures are divided by material type and set light in initial tone to allow easy tweaking in Surfaces for taste and light requirements. These include Brass, Iron, Iron Stamps (for the stamped bits), Leather Flint, Leather Sling, Stone, Wood Dark (stock). All respond well to enhancement with 'outside' textures - those offered by Digital Delirium in DAZ are excellent, user friendly, and affordable. Some of these were used in the promo images.
The first four images and thumbnail illustrate what is easily achievable in DAZ Surfaces with no enhancements. I typically shift the wood to PBR Glossiness and darken it with a touch of brownish red. The topcoat glossiness and/or the Normal is reduced to taste. There's a lot of room here to play. The iron bits are usually darkened as well, usually below 50% depending upon light. The flint is best darkened as well. Flints varied in color from yellow-brown to dark grey depending upon the source. English flints tended toward grey. French flints tended toward brown, but the English were far from averse to using French flints.
The last four images show the weapon with enhanced textures, which are unnecessary but can add a bit of depth for really detailed shots if tastes require it. Most of these enhancements are from Digital Delirium; the walnut for the stock is from Rendernode.
