This was a fun exercise in materials and textures. I managed to make the figure body out of thin glass material by carefully adjusting the normals, glossy maps etc. I duplicated the figure and did a pass with a human skin texture. I then composited them together and did a matte painting to simulate the paint. I tried to minimize the amount of post work. Everything is rendered in 3D except the airbrush paint itself. Even the light columns are actually volumetric lighting cast from above through a volume cube.
