Post Apocalyptic Times Square

A mysterious virus emerged on Manhattan Island. The authorities reacted quickly, locking down the island completely. With no way in or out, gangs began to take over the streets during the day. But at night, strange mutated creatures infected by the virus started to appear. Chaos reigned.
Final Render

Hi everyone! I first discovered RenderHub while researching places to sell my 3D models. While browsing the site, I saw a banner for the graffiti contest. Right away, I thought: this is the perfect excuse to finally create a project I've been wanting to make for a long time. Originally, I planned a post-apocalyptic New York-style street scene, but with the graffiti theme, I thought: why not Times Square?
I started with the layout of the street and setting the camera angle in Blender. This made it easier to only model what would be visible in the final frame.

Next, I modeled the buildings around Times Square. I used Google Street View as my main reference, with one tab showing the real location and another with Blender open for modeling.

Then I modeled the roads and sidewalks.

Texturing came next. Modeling and texturing took the most time, about 10 full days.

After that, I placed assets into the scenelike barriers, trash bins, street props, and other details.

Graffiti creation.

I applied the graffiti and custom vandalized billboard textures. Since real Times Square billboards are LED screens, I chose to treat them as regular printed billboards so they would fit better into the destroyed look of the scene.

Next, I added grass, moss, and ivy.

After that, I placed abandoned cars throughout the street.

Raw render of the scene:

Clay render:

Wireframe with vegetation (Can't see very well):

Wireframe without vegetation:

Solid mode view:

Render from another angle:

The project took 15 days to complete. It was quite a challenge, since I've never created a post-apocalyptic environment beforebut I really enjoyed the process and the final result. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish an animation in time because each frame was taking around an hour and a half to render, since I dont have a dedicated GPU. Still, I'm happy with what I achieved and I hope you like it too. Thanks for taking the time to check out this project!
