New vender here
248Greetings everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to share some thoughts about my journey in 3D modeling. I've been working with 3D tools for many years going all the way back to 3D Dream from Corel, which originally got me hooked. Since then, most of my work has been personal, experimenting with creative ideas that bounce around in my head.
Recently, I took the leap into becoming a vendor, and I've realized that creating for the public is a whole different level. When I was making things just for myself, it was no big deal to work through issues on my own. But putting my name on a product means a lot to me, and I want to make sure I'm delivering something high-quality.
I just released a new DAZ 3D character SE3D Jolene for G8.1. I've received a good number of likes and gained a handful of followers, but I haven't really seen any downloads yet. So I'm wondering: am I chasing something that might not go anywhere?
I haven't fully explored AI content creation yet. I may dabble in it, but I'm unsure what the future looks like for creators in this space. Even if AI has potential uses, what draws me to 3D modeling is the hands-on, personal connection rolling up my sleeves, refining ideas, and building something from scratch. AI feels like it removes some of that creative process, at least for me.
I know AI is changing industries everywhere, and I admit I try not to think about it sometimes. Maybe I'm old-school, but for now I guess Ill just keep moving forward and doing the work I love.
One thing is a hoot to me. I had Chat GBT helped me to refine this post.
Thanks
Rick

You will find you get a lot more likes and favorites than sales when you release a product
People often put aside things they like on their wishlist and wait for it to go on sale
Are you chasing something that might not go anywhere?
That depends on where you're expecting it to go
I find that a few hours of work will give the chance at making back my time investment in dollars
It's only a chance....some of my products sell well, others stagger along and take a while to break even in my mind
I have my own goal posts I've set up in my mind after selling here for a year and a half....so far I'm still 'going somewhere' though exactly where is not clear nor is it clear how much longer the journey will last
I'd give it some time, get more product in your store and see if it takes off at a pace you want it to

Hey man.
"Almost" new vendor here, just like you.
As they already said, don't take likes too seriously. Sometimes they're just an appreciation for your work, sometimes it's a way to "save" your product for an eventual future purchase. Now, as you already noticed, the market is a totally stranger world when you decide to model for other people and not anymore for only yourself. If your goal is to sell, take your time, analyse the market, try to understand what you can do at your best for possible buyers. Also, you must have patience and let your store grow up while you introduce yourself to this environment.
I'm observing many artists here (and sometimes I purchase from them), because I like their style or because they offer what I need in that exact moment. I noticed that those stores with a specific identity usually have success, and what I'm suggesting you is exactly to offer what you think you can do at your best.
I wanna be honest with you, I'm not one of those big sellers I'm talking about, but I'm planning to build up a certain identity in the future.
Also, don't worry about AI, for now. Yes, I agree with your concern, but at the moment, its technology is not good enough to place a DAZ product on store, lol

Welcome to RenderHub
Looking at your shop, here's what I understand (but my English isn't very good, and online translators can distort the meaning of the text due to homonyms):
You sell:
a Jolen character
2 packs of 15 poses (and their mirrors)
From what I've read, I understand that the poses are designed specifically for Jolen, and if I use the base G8F or G8F with a different morph, I'll have to adapt the poses.
From personal experience, as long as you haven't reached a hundred views, not having sold a single copy isn't alarming.
Of my last 20 items listed, only 6 have been purchased, with 1 or 2 copies sold.
I hope this information is helpful.

Welcome, Studio-E-3D
The likes, favorites, etc. in relation to sales have already been explained. A little tip from me: on Renderhub, there is a significant correlation between gallery images and sales. Many sellers have already reported that publishing images of their products increases sales. So, if you have the time and inclination, create a few renderings (perhaps even new ones, not those from the product promos) with your products, add them to the gallery and link them with your product.
Actually, I should take this tip myself... but with all my projects, I hardly ever get around to making pictures like these
Good luck

There was a time once, when making 3D content had the possibility of netting the content creator a healthy sum of money.
Unfortunately, that time has passed. Even well established vendors are struggling in the main Daz-poser universe stores. There is simply less customers than there once were. And those same customers have a lot of content that they purchased through the years. As a general rule, what they look for is stuff that is unique, and unlike anything they may already have in their library.
There are so many characters and so many pose sets, what will make the new product stand out against the competition? That is the question you have to ask, and answer.
And to pushee-ri's point, you want to build a following by offering things so interesting and arty, that make them want to render. And then they want to post those renders. And their vision and artwork triggers desire in others. That's how products sell more.

I'm not presently a vendor, but I'm a Poser & Daz aftermarket whale of almost 20 years, as well as a giantess artist (or 3D director, if that sounds better) who's been putting out material all that time.
My honest assessment when I browsed your store was:
- All right, she's cute. Not something I'll need right away, but I'll keep an eye out for what this one puts out later.
- The pose sets would be best geared to Genesis [8/8.1/9] instead of just one character. A director like me is going to use those pose sets as a "starting point" to add our own modifications anyway.
- That blink fix is welcome - especially for G8.1 - and I will almost certainly give it a try (some time within the next two weeks when I'm able to sit down and do real work).
Speaking only for myself, I will 100% bookmark a potentially useful asset, and go months before I buy it. I kind of have to, because I'm not what they call "rich." It's not even to do with the quality of the products; many or most are excellent or even mindblowing. But as a director, I'm thinking in terms of the assets at my disposal and my immediate needs for a given image or sequence.
Putting out just one or a couple of things isn't enough to gauge your potential. It's the same for me. You have to establish a cadence of putting stuff out over time in order to see how you're doing. And you never can tell what's going to blow up or be a dud. You might surprise yourself.
Anyway, for whatever difference it makes, your works seems of solid quality, and I'll be curious to see what else you come up with in the future. But if you just started within the last week, you're just getting started. Try to think more in terms of a marathon than a sprint. Hope that helps.

Welcome to the rambling thoughts of a 3d marketplace vendor " am I chasing something that might not go anywhere?" The answer is: Maybe. I've had similar thoughts since 2009 when I released my first Poser/Daz product. I've been in several marketplaces around the web, and only just last month did I start posting here on Renderhub. Yes, making items for the market is quite different than just making whatever you want. Sometimes I'll spend a few weeks on making a fully custom figure with clothing and it does nothing in sales, ever, for a decade.... and other times I'll make something that only took a few hours and it will pay my mortgage that month, and the next... Unfortunately those times seem to have passed, sales seem way down to what they were in the 20teens's. I think with the release of Blender to the free/ open market has changed the face of customer to make FBX a real competitor, not that I have any data to back that up (but the marketplace themselves does have that data).
All of that being said, I would suggest you make the content YOU like, make it the best you can, and release it when you are ready. That way you are happy doing what you are doing. Welcome to being a professional 3d vendor!
ps: We can only pray one day Renderhub will release some sales data to the vendors letting us know "what" sells the best here. Be it Daz furniture, STL print ready files of jewelry, FBX rigged vehicles, etc... Then we would "know what to make".
