Hi, my idea for this contest is to make a cursed (demon?) old King in his own throne.
I started collecting some images for inspiration and then started sculpting the head of the character from a base mesh in Zbrush.

After blocking out the head, I went to Blender for setting the camera. I chose a vertical shot, with the camera at the bottom to give the king a haughty, power tone.
Then I started modeling some part of the castle, which will be visible in the background.
I put all togeter in the shot to give me the idea of a final looking image.

I went a bit further tonight, added details to the background and started texturing and testing the materials. I also tried the eye shader, which I don't mind at all.
Finally I modeled the armor and did some rendering tests.

Wow, this is becoming quite intresting! I like where this is going.
The competition for this one is fierce.

I moved on a lot on this days. I sculpt in Zbrush the details of the head, like skin pores (this is the part of the pipeline than I don't like, but It have to be done in order to reach a good level of realism). I also sculpt the details of the sword.
Then I create from the hight poly mesh the normal maps, ao and cavity for skin pores of the head.
Switched on Blender, I created the skin material and also all the others materials for the crown, sword and armor.

Finally I made some renders, I'm pretty happy with the result, but the background does not convince me, It's too clean, I have to work on it.

I made some small adjustments on photoshop, like adding a bit of blood on the sword and increase the contrast of the all image.
(on the left the pure Blender render, on the right the image with photoshop postpro)

Wow! This is really awesome. I love the texturing.
Thanks for participating in the contest, and for sharing your WIP images along the way. Very cool.

I improved the background, adding some others chains in differents distances from the camera to create more depth of the scene (thank to the depth of field).
I also created a simple candlestick, and I added some others little details to the castle part.

I created a render in black and white, and I have to admit that I don't mind at all
