How to TRANSFER any G8F/G8M Morphs to G9 Character (CLOSED)

Load fresh DAZ
Load fresh untouched G9F Base Model (NOT V9).
IMPORTANT - Select G9 and ZERO FIGURE. This will remove the Starting HD morphs that are dialed in, i.e, HD Navel. How to check is select Currently Used on the parameters tab tree.
Delete/Remove Gen9 Eyelashes, Tear, Eyes, Mouth and Eyebrows from scene.
Load fresh untouched G8F or G8M model (with morphs loaded but NOT dialed in)
IMPORTANT - Select G8 and ZERO FIGURE. This will remove the Starting HD morphs that are dialed in, i.e, HD Navel. How to check is select Currently Used on the parameters tab tree.
NOTHING ELSE SHOULD BE IN THE SCENE.
I will sometimes just refer to the G8F but this is the same method for the G8M.
On both Figures, Drop Resolution Level the BASE,and Zero out the two SubD Levels below it.
On your G8F/G8M go and find all your morphs in Parameters TAB you want to transfer and mark them as favorites (Heart) for each morph.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT INFO!
WARNING! JCM (Joint Controlled Morphs) will NOT transfer in working order. You could transfer them but you would have to be skilled in how to ERC them correctly and I will not cover this here. This also goes for controlled morphs/Empty channel created (morph sliders that control multiple morphs at once. This is only for single morph transfer; even though JCM are actually morphs and make changed to the mesh these are ERC Frozen to specific parameters and will break the chain and will not work properly. The G9 characters use CBS (Corrective Modifiers) which is their term for JCMs on the G9 figure.
HD Morphs will NOT transfer. Do not bother with transferring these morphs as you will need to be DAZ PA to do this.
EYES / TEETH / LASHES Morphs WILL NOT transfer. Eyelids will transfer as these are attached to the face.
OPTION/TIP: on one of your favorite morphs right click on the Parameters Settings and change the path (create) to a different path like Gen8 to Gen9. This will move that one morph to that path. DO NOT WORRY this will not change the location as long as you do not save out the morph again on the G8.
Click Accept to move that morph. This will create that new path on the G8 tree, usually at the bottom. Above the character tree click on FAVORITES to show the favorites you just selected, and then right click where the morphs are and select EDIT MODE, Select one at top, scroll down to the bottom, and hold Shift+Left Click to select all and then drag them all to the new Path you created.
Why do this, When moving your morphs to G9 this will place all your morphs into that path on the G9 and is a way to keep track of them as leaving those morphs in their respective spots will create the same path on your G9 as G8 and some morphs will be lost if you don't remember every single favorite morph you transferred.
This is important to those morphs you need to re-rig after transfer.
***WARNING IMPORTANT***
On the G8 Character Select the Thighs and each thigh should move inward by 6 and -6 respectfully. The G8 Legs are wider than the G9. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT so you have to make sure this step is completed.
IMPORTANT - RECHECK:
...that you did not move either character; that the x,y,z axis is zeroed, check hips too, and NO SCALING. Sometimes if you DID accidentally click on one of the characters in the scene this might View Translate a part or the whole of a character. These characters MUST be in zeroed position. IF YOU HAVE TO RE-ZERO YOU MUST MAKE SURE THE G8 Thighs are corrected again from the steps above.
In Menu SELECT Edit
SELECT Figure>then TRANSFER UTILITY...
Source: Scene Item > Select Genesis 8 (F or M)
Item SHAPE: Current
*VERY IMPORTANT* to make sure this is correct.
Target: Scene Item > Select Genesis 9
Item Shape: Clone
(*VERY IMPORTANT* Opens a new widow and select the CORRECT CLONE, ie... Male or female and Genesis 8). If you mistakenly pick the wrong clone this is an issue, so please make sure you are selecting the correct clone.
DO NOT TOUCH PROJ. Template (NONE)
CLICK on Show Options >>
Distance Tolerance (Optional) i change to .033 or .034. WARNING! DO NOT hit ENTER on your entry this will execute the script! Just click off of it to finish your adjustment.
Smart L/R Filtering should be checked.
Consider Lines Rigid> Check
USE NEAR VERT and USE ADAPTIVE TOLERANCE> Checked and Slide both all the way to the Right fully topping it out. (1000%, 100% respectfully).
General Options:
ONLY Weight Maps and Morph Targets should be checked here.
Left-Click on Morph Targets
On the Right under FROM SOURCE: Change None to FAVORITES (IMPORTANT!!!)
UNCHECK From Proj. Temp and OVERRIDE EXISTING (Override only if you know what you are doing here)
Post Transfer Options: (Bottom/IMPORTANT)
EVERYTHING HERE IS UNCHECKED
WARNING!!! RE-CHECK ALL SETTINGS BEFORE PRESSING ACCEPT!!!!
Depending on your Computing power and HOW MANY morphs you transferred this might take a while. RECOMMEND for first try to only select 5 or less for trial run.
IMPORTANT DO NOT CLOSE DAZ!!!
Hide G8 Figure
Check G9 Figure for morphs. If you created a new PATH mentioned above for all your transferred morphs then they are easily found.
MOST IMPORTANT STEP BEFORE BONES: SAVE OUT MORPHS!!!!
Select G9 > Menu Bar > File > SAVE AS > Support Asset > Morph Asset(s)...
Asset Directory: Where you want them to be saved
Vendor Name: Since these morphs are most likely others then i always just use a folder name instead like G8 to G9
Product Name: Name it what you like, like G8 to G9 again or Transferred Morphs etc...
Properties: (CHECK ONLY THOSE MORPHS YOU TRANSFERRED, VERY IMPORTANT YOU NOT SELECT ANY MORPHS OUTSIDE WHAT YOU TRANSFERRED. Main reason I mentioned moving those morphs to your own path so there are not mistakes here. If you select an already existing morph you will create a duplicate morph error when loading your next G9)
Click Accept
Once the morphs are saved, CLOSE DAZ and restart it for the next important steps below.
WARNING CREATE COPIES of Morphs just in case you make a mistake. Easy way just go to the morph folder and COPY FOLDER to new location of your choice.
Load a fresh G9 figure and delete the extras (eyes...etc)
Change resolution back to BASE and Zero SubD. *Optional but recomended for steps below*
FEW OPTIONS TO CONSIDER.
OPTION 1, USE G8 Clone RIGGED.
Go to G9 / Hidden / Clones on Parameters Tab
*Note if you cant see the Hidden path go up to the small square on the tab plane while in the parameters tab and select Preferences>Show Hidden Properties*
Find the G8F or Male if you did this route, and dial in the clone to 100%.
BY DEFAULT the Clones do not have rigging so if you use this method you will need to rig the clone and ERC it if you know how to do this, BUT I RECOMMEND USING ZevO's Shape Rigger Plus.
FAVORITE the Genesis 8 clone before opening the script. It will state that it doesn't work with the current figure but it will. Do not use Include Bone Alignment option, just rig it. MAKE SURE TO SAVE THE MORPH on the next tab inside the script, if you don't the rigging will reset the next time you load a G9.
https://www.daz3d.com/shape-rigger-plus
If you do not own Zev0's Shape Rigger Plus I STRONGLY recommend you do. Trust me if you have multiple morphs you transferred you will have to do the long way thru menu option, Figure>Rigging>Adjust Rigging to Shape... for each morph and then you have to save each out correctly!! Umm No way. Plus the weight maps transfer better with the Zev0 product and so much faster.
Save out corrected RIGGED G8 Clone. Do not change location of original clone location.
Restart DAZ and Load fresh G9 and Delete extras, Drop Resolution to BASE, Zero SubD.
CHECK G8 Clone rigging. Menu>Tools>Joint Editor Dial in G8 Clone on G9. the bones should be aligned. If not then you will need to repeat steps.
CHECKING ONLY: Now with G8 clone at 100% then dial in each morph as you would on a G8 Figure. KEEP IN MIND if you did a G8F or G8M transfer. Choose the correct clone before dialing in the morph.
*** IMPORTANT*** NEXT STEP is to rig all your morphs, Again ZERO FIGURE, that includes the G8 Clone. Absolute ZERO.
Favorite all morphs you transferred.
Parameters Tab: Easy way is to right click and enter Edit mode and select all morphs and right click again and FAVORITES> Add Selected Properties to Favorites.
RECOMMENDED: USE Zev0's Shape Rigger Plus or the long method. RE-SAVE MORPHS.
Close DAZ after saving out and reload G9.
THIS METHOD you will have to dial in G8 Clone each time to get the exact morph to work as intended with those transferred morphs.
WARNING!!! IF DAZ does an update to the G9 Figure you will have to RE-RIG the G8 clone.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
OPTION 2, Utalize G8 Clone UNRIGGED and Transferred Morph (EXPORT)to CREATE one slider morph.
Same as Option 1 but DO NOT RIG, ZERO FIGURE TO GET RID OF HD MORPHS.
***IMPORTANT*** To use this method it is very important to make sure the figure is at BASE and SubD is zeroed at NO OTHER OBJ, FIGURE is in the scene or HIDDEN. Best to make sure that only the G9 figure is present.
Dial in each transferred morph one by one (G8 Clone must be at 100% for each morph) and SELECT File>EXPORT each morph out as obj.
Select location for your EXPORTS.
If you want to OVERWRITE the old morph use the exact same name, or RENAME to create a separate morph.
DAZ Studio for EXPORT. Don't touch any settings unless you know what you are doing. Just press accept.
After all the morphs are exported we are going to place them back by utilizing the Morph Loader Pro.
Again G9 must be Zeroed and BASE Resolution.
SELECT G9
SELECT Edit>Figure>Morph Loader Pro...
Geometry: DAZ Studio
Load Morphs for: Primary Figure (Vertex Only)
Preset: Choose Morph Files...
(You can select multiple morphs, but take care when doing this as there are a few things you must change within each loaded morph)
Each morph when loaded, open each one by selecting it, it will drop down more setting:
***You can change the name here if you wish but if you wish to overwrite it there is one more step that must be completed:
ONLY FOR OVERWRITE: under Overwrite Existing: Change make unique to Deltas Only.
***WARNING if the name is exact this will overwrite the old transfer! Make sure you want to overwrite it. If you are afraid to do this then just rename it differently and skip that step.
Property Group: Location you want to place morphs. If using OVERWRITE then you don't need to change anything it will place the morph in the correct spot. Or you can CREATE a new path by right click on the Morphs/Morph Loader and top left of loaded menu will be CREATE, click on it and name it a new path.
Create Control Property: No
Reverse Deformations: (VERY IMPORTANT) change to YES
Change nothing else.
RECHECK EACH MORPH to make sure EACH morph was changed/updated.
Hit Accept to load each morph.
If there is a VERTEX error then the Geometry is wrong which is either you didn't make sure to lower the RESOLUTION on either the EXPORT or before re-import (Loader Pro). Or, there was another figure in the scene while exporting. If you follow the instructions above and didn't miss/skip a step then there should be no issues with loading.
After loading then rig by using Zev0's Shape Rigger Plus (favorite morphs) mentioned above and RE-SAVE the morphs.
This method doesn't use the G8 Clone as the G8 Clone was exported into the morph you selected.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
***ADVANCED*** Morph Loader Pro, Attenuate By settings can be used if you want to split Head and Body from a full body morph that includes the head and body in one morph, by using the G9 Utility (Load Head Splitter) located on the G9 Parameters Tree.
NOTE: If you want to separate HEAD AND BODY then load 2 of the same morph and follow these steps:
SELECT G9 > Utilities > Left Click Load Head Splitter
For HEAD ONLY: Select Morph and rename to- Head (example: from Lulu to Lulu Head)
Property Group: Your path
Reverse Deform: Yes
Attenuate By: Weight Maps > D-Former_1 > Influence Weights
For BODY ONLY: Select other of same Morph and rename to- Body (example: Lulu Body)
Property Group: Your path
Reverse Deform: Yes
Attenuate By: Weight Maps > D-Former_1 > Influence Weights NOTE: If you want to separate HEAD AND BODY then load 2 of the same morph and follow these steps:e same as the head. BODY is always at -1 whereas Head is at 1.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
ISSUES: The only issues I have seen are a few mouth morphs will not transfer well. This can be corrected by messing with the Adaptive Tolerance, Near Verts and Distance Tolerance, before transfer in Transfer Utility. It is very rare but sometimes has issues there. The only other issue are the toes but again very very rare. Mostly deals with odd shaped G8 characters.
I hope you enjoyed this comprehensive tutorial. Please feel free to reach out to me by PM and I will try and answer your questions.
Thank you and Happy Rendering!

More of this. It's frustrating that tutorials for nearly everything is now "well so-and-so made a video." but didn't bother with a transcript for those who live their lives with the mute button on and don't care to monetize YouTube any further than it should be. You're the hero we need.

Update: Please try and get rip of any G8 Nipple or areola morphs before transfer on your character as much s possible. I have found that transferring those will result in slight variations in that area as they do not line up with G9's female nipple locations on the mesh.
