Elven Ears vs Hair Fix

Hi there,
For a while now one of the things that has bothered us in Daz is hair and ear collisions. This week we released our model Filauria, a wood elf, who happens to have particularly large ears. We provided a morph with her thanks to DieggoMasamune, that allows her to have human ears also. But sadly this still does not fix this issue.
User MKDAWUSS purchased our model and also spoke of the collisions just like our tester Nemesis74s before him. While their are some acceptable issues, such as a figure not conforming perfectly to a standard gen 8 pose set, or clothing not fitting to a heavy chested model well etc, this got under my skin. If her ears are stopping or halting the creative process it needed to be fixed.
After much searching and looking at blown up old JPG images and forums speaking about Genesis 2 models, I found the answer to the problems and I hope it'll be useful to others out there also.

Here is Filauria with her dreaded ear hair issue. In Daz clothing and hair is designed to auto fit a character. For the most part this is useful but in situations like this it will cause unpleasant and render breaking issues.

In order to remove this effect you have to select the character model and in the parameters tab find the desired morph file. Click the cog and then parameter settings.

Once the box opens uncheck Auto Follow and then click accept.

Reload the hair and now it will no longer interact with the ears.
I hope this helps others out there also.
Thank you to MKDAWUSS and Nemesis74s for highlighting the issue.

Thanks for pointing this out. Often I changed the hair of my characters just to avoid this effect, not realising that the solution is that simple.

Fri, Jun 23, 2023I am really glad it has helped you. It is a simple solution but it took a long time to find the answer. It's a shame there is not more information widely available on Daz and easily accessible. But I guess learning everyday has its perks too

You still may deal with clipping issues. For any hair issues I have, I just use magnets. If it's really problematic I might "fix" the model in Blender.
This "auto follow" feature should never be used for hair. It's hair, not a piece of clothing. I see clipping in your rendered example, so in that case you really should use magnets. I do that a lot for my characters who have long elf ears. Just use the magnets to pull the clipping strands up and behind the ears. The hair in my posted example is quite short, but the sides were clipping into her ears. Two magnets and a few minutes of work, and you can't even tell anymore.
Not saying you're wrong; but only half the issue is addressed here.

Mon, Jun 26, 2023Awesome! Thanks for the information.
We couldn't find an answer so this is the best we could find at the time.
I'm not aware of magnets and I am sure others wouldn't be either. So if you could share your knowledge and explain how this is achieved it would be very helpful for the future. Not just for us but for anyone seeing this post.

Wed, Jun 28, 2023They're called D-Forms and you can apply them to any geo, they're on the top toolbar. Pick your material zone/node, add a D-Form tool and you're set. It loads as a field with an attached handle for you to rotate, scale and move geo within the field. It also has a falloff range based on the field's size.
D-Forms have been around for a long time. It was the first Studio plug-in I ever bought, a few years before DAZ implemented paid Advanced and Pro versions of Studio.
