UV mapping is holding me back (CLOSED)

UV mapping is holding me back
For a long time I have fantasized about owning Substance Painter but It is expensive. Steam is almost viral so I wont be buying it there leaving the adobe subscription as the main option.
Adobe pricing is confusing and difficult to know what package I should get (if i get it at all). I can only afford it if I have a couple products to sell to cover the cost.
I have to return to work in the spring anyway and I hope some new tools will help me at least break even. Is the heavy price for Substance Painter worth it?
Can I run it offline as I hate being constantly connected?
What package to get?
Substance 3D Texturing is 15.97/mo (This seems fair and a decent price).
Substance 3D Collection is 20.21/mo for 6 months then 40.45/mo (I doubt I will need the full pack at nearly 50 quid a month seems expensive).
I have a tone of assets I need to paint some will be free but many are designed to sell so I need a nice clean and quick workflow to get through the backlog of all the things I have made over the past 2 years.
15 a month is pretty good if I can easily texture all the vehicles I have made. Any advice regarding UV mapping and texturing is welcome and will be considered.

Substance is for painting textures. Your title says UV mapping, which is something else. Anyway:
While still a work in progress, you can grab something called ArmorPaint. It's a good replacement for the Adobe ransomware. technically you can do the same thing inside of Blender but it's more complicated and you may need an addon to match features in Adobe. The advantage of doing that is the addon is a one-time purchase. I have a good one wishlisted but at the moment I don't remember its name.
For UV mapping I suggest using Blender, while the UV mapping tools in it are ok, they are not "robust" and you can get free or low-cost addons to help with workflow. For learning I suggest the BlenderBros UV mapping course.

Thu, Nov 16, 2023Hi Pinspotter Substance does both a bit like 3D-Coat but both are pricey. I like your suggestion of ArmorPaint it looks good but as you say still early in alpha but I will look further into it. It seems very much like uv-packer and plugs into blender and unreal. uv-packer is free so maybe that is usfull to you. I'm still researching as my workflow needs to be updated as well as leaving the cryengine behind I'm not sure what engine to focus my time on yet. Blender has my vote for many reasons but I need something that suits my needs and for teaching my ambitious teenager.
Most likely going to be unreal. More research needed before i spend anything. Thanks for your comment.
