I'm very disorganized and forgot to post the progress, I hope it's okay.
Hope not too late to start
Background:
On May 2, 1968 an organization took advantage of the military regime and all the confusion that was going on in the country and started a war on a small island located in southern Brazil to disguise the kidnapping of hundreds of people for inhumane laboratory tests.
With several deaths and much blood spilled, a man while trying to flee from all the chaos saw a little girl of 8 years old, already unconscious and trapped under rubble, decided to help her and they went to a more distant part of the city.
From that point the two spent several years surviving together, the man taught Kyoki everything she needed to learn about how to survive, defend herself and hunt. Five very agitated years have passed, with many of the thugs of that organization returning to the island and trying to kill them both, a bear appears while Kyoki hunts and with a blow to Kyoki's face, plucks out her right eye and she falls unconscious. The man hears the screams and runs to help her and ends up killing the bear and takes Kyoki home to treat the injuries. Unfortunately, during the battle, the man was badly injured and ended up not resisting his injuries and died hours later.
Since then, Kyoki has spent the rest of her life living alone and always trying to find the ones she loves again
Kyoki has a special gift, because she sees spirits and spiritual auras of some people, and in some cases even talking to them, that's how she managed to survive for so long without having anyone to help her
Here's my sketch:

CONTEST ENTRY DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JANUARY 15, 2021
Some contest participants have been giving feedback that they may not have time to complete their projects, or may have to take shortcuts to make the November 30th deadline.
To relieve some of this anxiety and give artists more time to do the quality job they want, RenderHub has decided to extend the entry period deadline to January 15, 2021.
We thank you all for participating! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Dear Lollyheartfield,
Interesting model, concept and storyline. Of the latter (storyline) keep it simple, because with development comes complexity and 'multipliers', which can draw attention away for the central figure and her central struggle to survive.
Mike's criticism of the knife was wrongly worded/failed to explain correctly.
i). The Knife type/style is mid-late 20th Century (1955~75 - introduced/issued during the Korean war). Is weird, but for the century we are in - you add one number ... so for 2020/2021 - we are in the twenty first century. Last century (1901>2000) was the twentieth century. {{Thus Mike might be saying the knife type is 100 years advanced on 19th Century blades (1801~1900). Maybe better if he had explained these things.}}
ii). The damage and pitting on the blade is incorrect (unlikely) for a carbon steel blade, especially a military grade blade. You might get very small/tiny pock or chips right on the sharpest edge from contact with similar strength/quality steel (fighting villains/thugs) or particularly strong-sharp rock like slate; however the first thing her former mentor/guardian would have taught her - would be to keep the blade clean and sharp.
Thus over time the edge of the blade might be a little uneven - caused by her using a sharpening stone to keep the edge very sharp (called "keen") - however it would not be pitted or broken as shown.
Those military issue knives came with a sharpening stone in the boot/side holster. Obviously this was probably lost (holster and stone); however all over the islands off Brazil/South America ... you get slate stone. Slate stone is knife/blade sharpening stone (small flat or elongated round slate stone will sharpen knives, machete, axes, etc.).
I am very impressed with your use of frayed hessian sacking for clothing - plus the obvious time and though you devoted to making this. Is very realistic and true to your storyline.
Also very impressed with the body shape used - as indicates upbringing of hunger and difficulties.
Suggestion (although I have recommended you keep the storyline simple). Just as for her mentor - out hunting for food, then coming to help when she meets the bear ... maybe the bear was out hunting for food - to feed one lonely club back in forest den. Maybe she might be down catching fish in a steam when seeing the bear cub crying for food - then throws a fish to cub. Maybe they become friends, then she has another powerful ally against thugs - once cub grows (likes her fish treats).
Cheers and good luck in the competition,
Rick.

Hey @RxLnx thank you very much for your feedback and for explaining how I can improve the appearance of the knife.
My intention is not to accurately reproduce how knives were made at that time, I like to keep things with my own identity. I like the idea of her being very clumsy and inattentive, and the time alone on an island and the way she lost everything she had, sanity is something missing
About the bear, I liked your idea, only that there're no bears in Brazil, so the meeting was totally unexpected and it doesn't make sense to have other bears on the island. Bizarre experiments are done in that laboratory and not even the animals are at peace

Dear LollyHeartfield,
Good - thank you for your reply.
Reason for "good" lies in comments I frequently make to artists (in this competition and elsewhere) about 'listening to advice/feedback - but always follow your heat and mind ... as otherwise you lose your individuality' (most precious aspect of any artist).
Bears? My sister-in-law is from San Palo. Maiden name DeSousa ... maybe you know the family? [Much laughter ... I know DeSousa is very common family name (say for joke)].
You have firm storyline in head/brain - keep it (very good).
Was also impressed by your skin texture and colouring - showing presence of old/healing bruising.
Be safe ans be well - keep smiling,
Rick.

Sand dollars will be used to make a necklace, this one was a little hard to find a way to draw it without know how to draw XD
so I started with two oval shapes and make a star

a generated noise texture with polar distortion

put those texture on the corners of the star and masked it

moving on to 3d model, it's basically a circle with a displacement modifier

to make it more realistic, in each sand dollar I changed the shape of the uv maps, so the star in the center will look different for each one

the final result with some details added

I have an ideia of pose and started making the armature, this is one that I did a while ago and decided to reuse it

I use bend bone for the arms and legs, this way, it avoids strange deformations in the model, the topology also helps a lot

Without bend bones

With bend bones

this armature don't have bones for facial expression, so I researched some behind the scenes of animations and video games to get the reference of where to place each of the bones

here's the pose I did

Here are some updates on little things I did
first of all, I realized that I forgot to put the skin texture process here
I did a lot of the details procedurally, but I had to make some brushes to paint some details manually
these are the brushes I made in GIMP
I painted each layer individually, so it’s easier to make adjustments later
I painted each layer individually, so it’s easier to make adjustments later
I had to separate it into 4 different materials in order to maintain the resolution, these are the layers of the chest part (the textures for the head, arms, legs and hands the process was the same). To make the roughness and bump map, I just left everything in grayscale and adjusted the colors until it gets a good result

and finally all the textures (these are just the "base" textures, all the details of the material I made in Blender I'll bake everything together when everything is ready)
and finally all the textures (these are just the "base" textures, all the details of the material I made in Blender I'll bake everything together when everything is ready)
Now the finished necklace
there are 7 sand dollars representing strength, direction, knowledge, renewal, love, protection and courage

I also made this texture of wrinkles for the fingers
made it procedural so I can easily make variations

the brushes you can barely see it, but with proper lighting it looks better

I improved the SSS color by making a texture that mimics meat and veins (is procedural using noise texture and voronoi for the veins)
so I made a brush with the texture and painted by hand

with some details added after

the before and after comparison (note that I improved the veins bulging and added wrinkles to hands and feet)

Tan marks (it's not so visible, but it gives a nice detail when seen up close)

now to finish, the last details that were missing
starting with the arrows and quiver

the quiver I tried to imitate a bent tree bark
the nodes for the bark texture

The little pink shirt wrapped around her waist, it was the clothes she was wearing on the day of the catastrophe. It was a gift from her parents and serves as a comfort and a way to keep close to her parents

this is how a made the gingham pattern

now I just need to bake every texture and render the final result

Kyoki Chisana
Even when everything seems to be coming to an end, having a little patience, a light appears to guide you. It has been with these outbursts of emotions that Kyoki has lived for over 20 years in the hope of finding their loved ones.
Back to 1944 during WW2, while the Brazilian army rescued the Italians from the hands of the Germans, it was discovered by a group of soldiers (one of the soldiers being the grandfather of Kyoki) a small laboratory that was taking advantage of the country's chaotic situation, for the traffic of people to be guinea pigs in testing an injectable substance amphetamine base, in order to create super humans that are more productive and never feel hungry. After this discovery and a lot of blood spilled to rescue these people, the laboratory was completely destroyed, and together with these people, was the son of the head of the laboratory who swore revenge for his dad death.
On May 2, 1968, the boy, now an adult and with a new laboratory continuing his father's work, took advantage of the military regime and all the confusion that was going on in the country and started a war on a small island located in southern Brazil to disguise the kidnapping of hundreds of people for inhumane laboratory tests.
