Hello everyone, I have never entered a competition before. Even now, I'm not sure if I can finish my character, but even if I don't, I will have extra work for my portfolio. I started making the character back in early October, but did not dare to upload WIPs because I thought that I would get tired of working on it or for some reason I would not be able to finish it. I will lay out all the stages of work here gradually

I try to take my time so as not to miss out on the little things and details that I want to give my character. But it seems to me that at this rate I may not make it to the end.

It's a  sad that my character contest went unheeded. In every post, except for my topic, the administrator encourages, but here not. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I do not know. But in any case I keep updating WIPs
what I did:
- redid the bags behind the back
- added grenades instead of the bag on the left
- finished some details such as straps for bindings
- fixed some irregularities
- added base level paint
- made the face more sad

Hey there. I surely did not mean for you to feel bad.
Your first post was just yesterday, and I am not on here 24 hours a day.
I spent the day with my family today, so I apologize if you felt neglected.
Now... This looks amazing! All of the details that are coming out look awesome.
And I - for one - appreciate all of the cool WIPs. I'm not a character designer, so I really take interest in the WIPs to see how you guys all work your magic. Very cool.

Thanks for participating in the contest, AND for being a RenderHub vendor.
I've checked out many of your products, and you do great work.
Have a nice rest of your weekend!

I added some details and started working on the hair
I'm still afraid that there is less time left and I may not be in time

I have problems with texturing face again huh
But I finally got to the stage with the body and armor textures. Now it remains to deal with the textures of the face.

At a certain distance, the textures look good, if it were a character for a third person RPG.

But if you look closer, the textures become a little blurry. I do not know what is the matter, maybe this is a problem marmoset toolbag or or did I do something wrong in substance painter

I also do not quite understand why the texture of the dirt on the boots is poorly visible, because in Substance Painter all looks good

But for now my model looks like this

Although in any case, even if I do not make it to the end of the competition, I do not think that by the results of the competition I will get even in the top 10. So I continue to make a character for fun. If it works out well, that's cool. If it does not work, then I hope someone will advise me how to fix the errors

in my opinion your model looks really good, you will make it and if you don't, you will still have a great portfolio piece that you can finish in the weeks after the challenge

CONTEST ENTRY DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JANUARY 15, 2021
Some contest participants have been giving feedback that they may not have time to complete their projects, or may have to take shortcuts to make the November 30th deadline.
To relieve some of this anxiety and give artists more time to do the quality job they want, RenderHub has decided to extend the entry period deadline to January 15, 2021.
We thank you all for participating! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

At the moment, I can say that I have almost finished the character. I finished a draft version of it. Since I had some problems with the details of the face, which made it look pretty stupid, I came up with one thing.  I decided to add one modern detail that immediately makes it clear that my character is straight from 2020. The world is raging with coronavirus, a worldwide pandemic, self-isolation and quarantine, and I decided to add a very important thing to my character - a MASK! Now my character keeps up with the times, complies with quarantine measures and invests strength in the fight against coronavirus without removing his mask.
Now my character keeps up with the times, complies with quarantine measures and invests strength in the fight against coronavirus without removing his mask.
I decided to put the character in a pose similar to that of Renaissance sculptures. Also a reference to the culture of the Renaissance era is sent by my character's hands. When creating, I was inspired by the universe Deus Ex. Although I think the resemblance to the hands of Adam Jensen may be a reason for disqualification, but this is at the discretion of the judges. The fact is that me and eidos montreal were inspired by the theme of the Renaissance and I wanted to establish a connection between them by showing this in my character.
The character still has many flaws, but he is more ready. I would also like to make him some animations, normal rigging, adapt it for the game engine so that they can play in unreal engine 4. But since the deadline was moved until January 15, maybe I will do it.

Your solution with the mask is very fitting, and looks great with the rest of the character. Nice job!
Thanks for sharing the video, too.

Dear Cactus (waves at Ms Foxy and Shafam).
I have been watching this, partially because the speed and methodological approach impressed me as much as the character development.
Have achieved so much - so quickly - Cactus has the time and leeway to polish and perfect his model. Thus before January 15, who can fairly say where it may come in the competition.
Nevertheless Cactus is not going overboard in his expectations; while Shafam is wise and correct in saying there are many types of 'winning'.
For various reasons I suspect shortly RenderHub will start showcasing the models (and artists) in this competition, here and elsewhere; which in turn means your art, craft and skill will be significantly promoted - along with (and deservedly) your reputations.
Mind you - I suspect that might be semi-secret and I might get beaten-up if Ms Foxy caught me saying it.
... I think I can hear Santa calling - so I'll just go hide-out up the North Pole for a bit.
Cactus - your character is clean, fast and functional as was your work process. Folks take account of that (so do not write yourself off - polish and detail in the time remaining).
Cheers,
Rick.
