I'm looking for guidance.
I have been amusing myself with DAZ3D for a while now, (roughly since Gen8 first came out.).
The issue that I have been having for some time, is that Daz seems to be overloading my C-Drive,
even though my C-drive is over 2 Terabytes.
I have an even larger memory that is separate from the C-drive,
but I can't seem to move the Daz-operating system over there.
I have downloaded literally thousands of Daz3D files, so that may be the problem.
I'm looking for someone who is experienced with Daz and understands how to set up the libraries and operating systems.

I think the information you are looking for is here
https://www.renderhub.com/learning/how-to-use-third-party-content-in-daz-studio
I made a documentation (in French) for a French friend which explains how to move the My Library folder from the C drive to another drive
As it is a word file you can easily translate it by copy and paste into your native language
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gk3S0fqfFh3qoeLh9PmyDISDf_LnVs-a/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=103565018323116763728&rtpof=true&sd=true

Tue, Mar 12, 2024Thank you very much for the input, That is certainly part of what I am working on - but I suspect that Everwild may have hit the nail on the head . I will be taking some time and will look at all the information that has been so helpfully provided - it may take a while, but I'll let you know how it all turns out.

Wed, Mar 13, 2024It's perfect if my documentation helps you (and other readers of the thread), for my part I don't use Daz Install Manager, I download the zip files and I install the props and clothes by theme and not by author name, which also explains why I didn't think that the my library folder could be overloaded with zip files!

Sat, Mar 16, 2024Thank you for the input, it gives me something to consider.
I have long thought about something similar,
but when I started my initial explorations, I was working directly with Daz3d exclusively -
with very little understanding how these programs worked.
Now, almost 10 years later, and several variations in programs & computers later,
I have well over 10,000 files from about 5 different sources.
It is going to take me a while to get it all sorted back out.

If you go into Daz Install Manager and check at the bottom of the middle tab (Ready to Install), is the option to "Delete package once installed" checked? If not, DIM could be bloating your drive with all the zip files because it's not deleting them after they're installed.
You can also just check the directory which should be located as demonstrated (the default installation path):
C:Daz 3DApplicationsDataDAZ 3DInstallManagerDownloads
From what I understand, you cannot move Daz itself to another drive, but you can remap and install content to another drive. It looks like guy91600 has you covered there. Otherwise, there are a few youtube videos explaining how map a new drive/folder in DIM (and daz itself).

Tue, Mar 12, 2024I suspect that you may have hit the nail on the head .
I do indeed have a ton of files, and when I first set things up, I was cautious of deleting anything.
I'll have to verify my settings.
This may take me a while, but I'll let you know how it all turns out.

Sat, Mar 16, 2024Well... I have some work ahead of me. (lol)
So far, I've managed to free up over 90 Gb...
but I clearly have a long way to go -
but then, it has taken years to get this jumbled.
Something that I think is key - is that I still have a large number of characters
that when I open them, I get a message labeled: "Duplicate Formulas Found",
elaborating with -
"Duplicate formulas found in files.
Make sure that the content is properly installed.
See the Log Files for details."
I am certain that this would explain many of my issues...
but to be honest, I've never been able to locate the "Log Files" for details.
Do you have any insight?
I am certain that I must be missing something obvious.

It is with Genesis 2 Female that we have the error message, I remember that a script made it possible to no longer have this message
link to download the script https://www.dropbox.com/s/78mi1zh8p7udsgx/Fix%20Duplicate%20IDs.zip?dl=0
there is a web page in French which explains how to install and use the script, a step by step with screenshots, I think you will be able to translate it into your native language easily

Sat, Mar 16, 2024I appreciate the help, I've let these problems go uncorrected for far too long, and now I have what looks like a serious knot to untangle.
The vast majority of my stuff is G8, and I am definitely getting multiple duplicate files when I open many of the characters -
though it seems to be primarily the female characters that have this issue. I'm going to review the information that you sent and troubleshoot some more. It will likely take a few days at least.

Studio uses a cache folder, where it stores every single asset you load into a scene. You're gonna have to clear it once in a while.
If you're using Windoze, it will be in your documents folder, you'll have to drill down into your DAZ3D folder until you get to what's in the data folder. The folder you're looking for will most likely be the one with the most files, and it's called auto_adapted.
I cleared that folder less than a month ago and it's already bloated to 1.5 gigs of data.
As far as content goes, I install everything manually on a separate hard drive. I don't use anything automated either. All I use is manually-entered base directories. Install managers and so-called "smart content" will bloat your hard drive quicker than I can say, "bloat". Blender has a pseudo-smart content manager but it's much more efficient. And Marvelous uses a brute-force method; if you're looking for some content that comes with Marvelous, you have to download *everything*. Really annoying.
Everything I install is backed up to yet another drive. And every install file and zip is backed up. Because you never know when something will disappear, or be "switched off".

Mon, Mar 18, 2024Thank you very much. That is excellent information! I suspected that there might be something like that - partly because of the patterns of issues as I've tried to fix this previously.
I'll let you know what I find.

Tue, Mar 19, 2024On mine, I don't see one called auto_adapted, but I do have one at DocumentsDAZ 3DStudiodsoncachedata that is similarly sized, about 1.5 gig, assorted in folders going back to 2022. That the same thing?

Tue, Mar 19, 2024For now I would leave the dson cache folder alone. Go ahead and check the files inside. DSON is a Studio proprietary notation format that involves scenes, assets, et-cetera. For whatever reason, mine is pretty small.
You should have an auto_adapted data folder somewhere. You can either search for it in your file explorer, or perhaps it is set that way somewhere in Studio's settings. Your install may have defaulted the Studio content folder to your public documents.
Now, a rule of thumb regarding cache data is that in a lot of cases it can be cleared. But again, check the files inside. I know that when I perform my regular purge of auto_adapted, there's a small chance that a model in a specific loaded scene(usually a piece of clothing) doesn't load correctly, so I make a note of what it is and reload it manually. In 99% of cases Studio will just "rebuild" what was cached there when you load the scene the first time after the purge.
And I learned another thing a few minutes ago. For whatever reason my CMS folder had bloated out to around 500mb despite the fact that I don't use any "smart" content (smart is in quotes because it isn't smart at all, it's just a PostGre SQL database). I cleared it within Studio and now the folder sits at 45mb. You don't have to clear it at all but from my understanding it can bloat and become corrupted.
