Celestial Veil (CLOSED)

- Hi everyone,
- I'm a bit new to the 3D world, just a few months into Blender. This project actually pushed me to learn UE5 and Material Maker as well, which was quite a challenge! In just 23 days, I've managed to pick up a lot, but I know I still have so much to learn.
- I might have come across the contest a little late, but dragons are just so cool, I had to give it a try! Here's what a newbie like me managed to create in a short amount of time. I'd be happy to hear any feedback you have.
My workflow;
1. Sculpting the Dragon in Blender:
- I started by sculpting the dragon in Blender, focusing on the head first. This allowed me to finalize the pose before moving on to the body.
2. Refining the Design with Sketches:
- After sculpting, I created some sketches in Krita to further refine the composition and overall design of the scene.

3. Building the 3D Environment:
- Back in Blender, I retopologized the dragon mesh for better performance.
- I then sculpted the trees and mountains to complete the environment.
4. Material Creation and Texturing:
- I created all the materials for the scene using the Godot material maker.

5. Texturing and Scene Assembly:
- In Blender, I unwrapped the UVs for all the meshes.
- I then imported the entire scene into Unreal Engine 5. This engine allows for real-time rendering and precise control over the atmosphere, which proved very beneficial for finalizing the composition.

6. Rendering and Post-Processing:
- Finally, I rendered the scene in Unreal Engine 5.
- To add the finishing touches, I performed some post-processing work on the rendered image using Krita.
I wanted to create something mystique kind of like cosmic horror that i really like. I've chosen to depict the dragon as a colossal silhouette, its form hinting at a power beyond human comprehension. I didn't want to give a strong emotions like a fearful or anger, i am more likely want to give a unknown feeling with mysteriousness. This entity exists on a dimension so far beyond our own that its motives and very presence are incomprehensible.

Thank you for reading

I forgot to add, here it is the original render just before the post-processing

Wed, Mar 13, 2024Hey, this is great for you as a starter. You could have used that lightning scene fully, behind the dragon in your godot material thumbs in your small group of pictures (below, 4. Material Creation and Texturing header) which had a lighter and more natural night sky, not so dark.
More lighting underneath the wings of the dragon would make the wings stand out more and the lightning could be made more visible like you did in default godot material previews, since you had a good stream of lightning.
I wish you best with your entry.
