This is my contest entry for the Character Design contest, starting from scratch I decided I wanted to design a stylised Viking character. And so I began collecting references of styles I take inspiration from, references of Vikings both realistic and stylised, and weapon references because a Viking can't be without a weapon! I made quick notes of key points exaggerations I could make, beard grooming, proportions that I could play with.
Ultimately I ended with these three character designs, I have yet to test some colour palettes on them. But I think I like the design of the human character on the left simply because the shapes are nice, but I could take some beard elements and change the weapon based on the other two.
Once I've figured out my colours of the character I plan to create the character solely in Zbrush, pose it and texture it too, I know Zbrush can do some nice rendering I have yet to take advantage of that so It'll be interesting to experiment with it!
