Tattooed Dancer

Final render image
I created this character with the intention of using her in an animated music video. The idea was to have her dancing alone in a desolate-looking concrete environment, seemingly in a mindset that's transcendent of her grim surroundings. I wanted to incorporate tribal elements into her costume and body art, suggesting that she has something of a priestess or shaman about her.

After having come up with the character idea and refined it a bit, I generated a base mesh from Daz Studio and then made numerous alterations and improvements to it in Zbrush. I re-did the UV map from scratch and began painting the figure in Zbrush, although I would later refine the tattoo designs onthe map in Photoshop.
The clothing and accessories were modelled polygonally from scratch in Maya and added to the figure.

Once I was happy with my character's appearance I used Mixamo to automatically rig her in a default T-pose. I could then manipulate her posture in Maya to create the desired dancing scene and I added scenery that I had previously modelled for another project. I decided on a lighting setup and fog in the environment that was reminiscent of being in a nightclub but also evokes a sense of danger and unease.
Since I have the character rigged in Mixamo I now have the option of using a pre-made mocap animation to render her dancing in various ways in the future.
