Hello friends, how are you?
I'm making an adult game with renpy and daz studio (learning). What do you think is the best way to make animations for this kind of games: my idea is to start with something basic (i.e. decent) and then hire someone who knows the subject to improve it, significantly.
I was told that unreal engine could be a good option, but the truth is that I don't have the slightest idea.

Solo Game dev here
1. Unreal Engine is definitely something to start with if you are beginner.
2. For Adult Game animation or any other animations for the game you better just buy ready animations. If you search down the internet you will find it I believe
3. If you are familiar with Blender or any other 3D software like Maya or 3Dmax. You can create your own animations. Which will be hell of a work. For adult animations you may create basic anims yourself. Like doggy style, BJ or missionary, but still doing the physics will be a hell of a work. So better just go and buy animation
4. If you are to go with Daz3D characters - they are super realistic and their rigging is not that hard. But implementing them into Unreal Engine is easy and hard. Easy if you just want to make some animations - Hard if you will try to implement your Daz character into a UE4 or UE5 skeleton character.
5. Creating game is cool. Especially when you have a lot of time and little bit money. Plan ahead and you can do it. YouTube has hundreds of tutorials for beginner Game Developers. Check Gorka Games on YouTube for Unreal Tutorials.

Oh by the way- you can get simple and basic animations on Mixamo.com but unfortunately they don’t have adult animations
And in the Unreal Engine itself - you can edit change and save existing animations very easy.
