Your work is getting very interesting.
I don't understand Blender, but I believe that if you work with displacement maps, bump saved to 16 bits, png/tif, you will get details and bumps where there are bumps in the cracks. One technique I use in my land to create micro grains of sand is to use seamless bump noise. If it were in Daz Studio, PBR Iray, has slots to add other maps for details.
