3D Render by minus269I’ve kind of become associated with scenes/renders involving cryogenics - there’s admittedly a reason I ended up with the user name minus269, lol. This particular render was not an intentional composition at all. I was placing cameras for a sci-fi-spacecraft-interior set that I've been slowly assembling as time allows, and doing some tests for lighting... and this render happened. The frost on the subject’s skin is a “physical effect in so much as it’s produced via a series of geoshells that exist in the scene itself, rather than as Photoshop (or in my case, GIMP) post work. I find physical effects are often advantageous, as they respond to available light and don’t have to be created in post for every render - you just change cameras and keep rendering. Here, the only GIMP post work was to add name and date.
6-2025: I've added three additional views from within the spacecraft interior (which remains a WIP, alas).

Incredible job!!!! Did you use geoshell with alpha mask and displacement? The effect is really incredible! Congrats!

Fri, Nov 01, 2024Two geoshells. There are slight differences between the two shells in terms of the frost maps applied (diffuse, opacity and displacement), the mesh distance from the figure, and the displacement and opacity values. Makes for a sort of natural unevenness in the frost patterns.

Fri, Nov 01, 2024Thank you! Two geoshells are employed. I did run the render twice -- there was a very small (30x25 pixels) area of conflict between the frost patterns that I corrected by making an adjustment to the displacement values. The second render is what you see here.
