One Down - Ten To Go
3D Render by maru_berlinAgain playing with Optics by BorisFX.
After a good start with next to no tutorials and some nice light fx in this render I got stopped in my track: couldn't get the laser swords to look nice (I sure love that swirl effect, b ut the laser swords are just plain PS). There was a spectacular brush effect, but somehow a straight line (instead of a wiggly one) eluded me.
Still, thought this one not half bad, so here it is to comment and criticize.

I'm liking that swirl effect too! The apparent light intensity in the room gives a nice contrast to the dark figures.
Critical side: That guy on the far left thinks he is already doomed and commits suicide.

Tue, Mar 04Though it is the arm of the front robot that's in the way nd not the head of the one behind, you have a point there. Thanks.

Tue, Mar 04Depending on firing speed I think Froggy is in the lead, unless one of the robots comes up with the idea of throwing the laser sword at him.
Sword fighting - along with some martial arts - have the distinctive disadvantage that you have to actually be near to what you want to hit.

Nice combat scene!
And I agree on the difficulty of making good renders of emitting lasers or whatever glowing things (neons, etc.). The best result I achieve is to place a light glowing shader on the mesh and add another external light (a cylinder in the case of a saber) for the emitting light.
