An alternate spin on history as this render depicts the result of a kingdom that has learned
to use the spread of the Black Plague as a weapon against the poor.

I don't know, I was listening to Lorna Shore's song "Oblivion" when I started this one.
The lyrics seemed to fit this narrative pretty well.
The following writing below is not from the song.

"What sickness of the soul afflicts you?
Why must you always hinder the work of
the Perfumers?
For too long I have held my tongue,
watching from behind my mask as you sow discord,
but this is a malady of its own!
You are obsessed with shadowing our every advance,
with countering our every cure!
I stand with my brother in this.
This is no mere artist’s rendering of suffering,
no simple imbalance of the humors that can
be ignored.
We see the Pestilentia in its truest form,
a complete and utter corruption of the flesh
made manifest!
Cease your hounding of the men of physic!
They have the right to their methods,
to their tinctures and their aromatic arts.
No one, save you and your traitorous ilk,
interferes in this vital work.
Your gilded crusade against our healing is an
abomination!
You prattle on with such conviction for one
with such a pitiful
understanding of the Miasma!
A true physician perfects one potent poultice
for the good of all; a charlatan—or a King's dog—
merely spills countless vials of sweetened water to
mask the stench of their own decay! Your works are
foul, and I name you the most wretched knights in this
entire blighted kingdom!
You may clash steel with your rivals over petty honor,
but to slander our Guild—our very purpose—is a
heresy for which there is no penance! Seal your lips,
and never again speak ill of our kin!"
