Trap-her Keep-her
3D Render by urnsuddenI used to do horror-adjacent stuff a lot when I was doing strictly 2D art--A lot of organic, smashed up meandering things.

But the trouble with effective horror, at least to my mind, is it's not kitschy gore that makes people feel things anymore.
I was wracking my brain, trying to figure out what to do, wasting time smashing shapes together, made a basic woodlouse spider basemesh I was gonna pull human forms out of so it'd be in my natural wheelhouse, but then I had this weird dream. Liminal, infinitely tall walls and long hallways, real Kubrick shining vibes, real lynchian, something was chasing me through the halls but I couldn't see it. I could feel it and hear it, kind of sounded like white noise, getting louder. When I woke up I took it as a sign to aim at something liminal.
After wasting more time working on an abandoned mall, took inspiration from Seuss's midnight paintings and Giovanni Strazza's "Veiled virgin" thinking "What he did in marble would be super easy to achieve digitally, just cloth sim, shrink wrap, and remesh" but it absolutely refused to simulate. Decimated the mesh as a collision box so the calculations would be easier, but I lost a lot of detail in that, so I decided to just fiddle with transmissions, IOR, and roughness until I got something I liked
Used an existing mesh I retopologized for this thing

Rigged it with Blender's metarig, got the pose just about where I wanted it, duplicated and applied the armature modifier to sculpt out folds and what would usually be corrective shapekeys.
Ended up kind of looking like early cgi raytracing liminal weirdness, probably because scenes are NOT my forte. Not REALLY spooky, more trapper Keeper art, hence the title. The lighting temp I was aiming for was 3000k sodium lamp reflecting off a fountain at night vibes.
Upload order: Slight color-correction and chromatic aberration in GIMP, Original render, Matcap, Wireframe, Details*3
