Thank you for sharing this wonderful work! I am grateful!!
Dining Set, Heller, Vignelli, Max, V1 3D Model
A free 3D model by Luke Turner (AKA Luqu, Luqu Trnr, Lukon100, Volcanoface, Doubt45, Illuwuz).
Note: If I revise this model set and re-issue it, I will increment all instances of the "V1" to "V2" and so on.
This V1 release is meant to be a "beta" release. Help me improve future releases by sending me critiques and requests for features.
170,867 Polygons, 172,799 Verts = 1 of every item at high resolution in Daz Studio.
BACKGROUND
Designed by Massimo and Lella Vignelli, manufactured by Heller, the "Max" set of dinnerware were pretentious, minimalist, cheap plastic crap that lacked durability and, sometimes even lacked good design sense. But I love the way it looks!
Nostalgia for me. My parents had much of this dining set back in the early 1970's.
In the course of my 3D model rendering hobby, I eventually searched for it and found some basic items on SketchUp's 3DWarehouse, made by David Heim.
Several years later I decided to elaborate on Heim's set to:
1. Optimize the meshes for Daz Studio
2. Add more items (I think I got everything but the utensils, napkins, and napkin rings.)
3. Adjust the dimensions as needed to better match reality
And here we are.
SHORTCOMINGS
This 3D model ain't perfect. It's construction reflects my current beginner's skill level with Blender and Daz. But it looks ok from a typical distance, I think.
VERSIONS AND FEATURES
This V1 release download includes the model set in DAZ Studio format and .obj format.
DAZ STUDIO RESOLUTION -
These items load into Daz Studio in High Resolution mode. You can set that to Base instead to reduce computer strain.
DAZ STUDIO STACKING HELPERS -
Daz Studio versions have what I call "Stacking Helpers" toggle switches in the "Parameters" tab for each model that can stack up on other copies of itself or onto others. Toggling them to "On" will stack the item up as such. Almost all of these helpers require the item first be parented to the other item it will stack upon. It is always safe to do this parenting, so "err" on the side of parenting.
I do not label these boolean toggle switches as "Stack Helpers", but they all have a blue control color.
DAZ STUDIO ASSEMBLIES -
I made a few assemblies for convenience, in the form of scene subsets. Most of these assemblies are just paring an item with its corresponding lid. But there's also a simple place setting, a stack of teacups on their saucers, and a cluster of items arranged according to how there were sold as a package called "Max 1".
DAZ STUDIO MATERIALS -
The plastic items are not UV mapped, but the content surface props are.
I include several color-swapping materials presets that work on all plastic items. These presets only change the color, leaving alone things like glossiness and so on.
The pitcher has three additional materials zones to allow coloring them differently than the regular plastic zone. These are the three bands of color that some of these pitchers actually had, and I labeled their material zones simply:
Band 1
Band 2
Band 3
I include no materials for the content surface props. But the default materials setting I use sorta looks like orange juice.
OBJ LABELING -
Unlike the Daz Studio versions, the .obj versions do not have the "V1" suffix on their model names. Instead, they have either X01, X02, or X03. Regardless, these X0 suffixes are the very ones from which I made the V1 versions in Daz Studio. Any future releases according to the "V1, V2, V3, …" scheme will feature increments to the .obj "X01, X02, X03, …" versions as well, but only as needed, per updated individual item.
OBJ ICONS -
I rarely include icons for the .obj versions of my offerings. But this time I did. They are 91 X 91 .png's.
