ABOUT
Hobbies that fascinated my nerdy self growing up were things like drawing, scultping, plastic models and model trains. I loved creating things from my imagination. I loved creating 3D sort of worlds that came with model kits and train layouts.
Back in the mid 1990s when Toy Story first came out, I was hooked and wanted to learn about 3D modeling on the Macintosh.
Sadly, since I worked for newspapers, which never like to spend money, I could only read about how 3D modeling was coming to Desktop Publishing.
Then with an Adobe Illustrator upgrade, they sent a shirt and a copy of the first Adobe Dimensions. My editor took the shirt but I was ready to install Dimensions.
While it wasn't true 3D modeling with just basic lathing and extruding with some beveling, it was close enough at the time.
Years later at another newspaper, I found an installed piece of software called Strata 3D.
It opened the door to finally being able to create 3D models on a basic level. This newspaper was very forward thinking and let me use 3D as much as I wanted, especially with the starting up of the online newsite.
Fast forward into the mid 2000's, when I was tasked at another paper to bring up the level of quality in the 3D work we were doing, and given that this paper was willing to spend some money but not much, I settled for Lightwave over Maya.
I've been using Lightwave ever since as my go to for modeling.
I've also been using Blender more and more for sculpting, and look forward to branching out into Z-Brush at some point.
For my texturing, I've embraced the joy of Substance Painter.
In the last few years I made the choice of moving to Daz over Poser and have enjoyed the verstatility of creating custom characters with many of the assets available.
Its been a long time since that first time I made a plastic model and then my first '3D' art but its been an amazing journey.
As I get ready to start selling on the marketplace here and post my work to the galleries. I've lurked around renderhub for some time and enjoy the community I see.
