Opinions on Reallusion's upcoming CC5 ?
250As commercial content creators we are aware of how closed the Reallusion Iclone market is.
(It is a EULA violation to sell anything in Iclone native formats outside of their market.)
They seem to be trying to challenge Daz genesis directly with these announced HD Characters but they are suspiciously refusing to show the joint deformations.
Still the facial quality looks excellent.

It's quite impressive, after all, everything is so expensive...
The hair alone is incredible. https://www.reallusion.com/contentstore/character-creator/pack/hair-builder/default.html

Mon, Apr 07I don't know.. here are the system requirements for CC4: https://www.reallusion.com/character-creator/download.html#system-requirements
and iClone8: https://www.reallusion.com/iclone/download.html#system-requirements. They are not horrible. Likely need another drive to store yet another marketplace worth of items..

I stopped at Iclone & 3DXchange versions 7
and CC3
The animation tools are great but I could not justify the upgrade expense with the poor quality Iclone render engine compared to what I have in Blender
and the free pipeline tool makes sending my CC3 characters to Blender a breeze.

When I looked at iClone and CC before, it felt like another "there's always a sale" situation.. Join the club for a discount to stack on a sales priced bundle etc. Still pricy though. Yes, realism is amazing. Not sure about challenging Daz.. Daz realism feels portrait oriented while iClone and CC animated realism looks out of this world. I guess you could use iClone for portraits; but my guess is that would be like using a Ferrari to get groceries.

I have to wonder how long Reallusion can maintain its pricing structure with low cost and FREE competitors like Cascaduer on the rise.
both companies have embraced AI assisted animation in their app but the team at Cascaduer are progressing very fast and gaining wide adoption in the indie game dev community.

Fri, Apr 11I read through Cascaduer's FAQ and they admit being less cinematic and more game play.. might be light on the expressions too. While they might provide an off line code; the software is intended to work on-line that may be an issue with the paranoid and the corporate types. It is also worth pointing out that it uses "AI" tooling and not generative "AI".
It sounds like Reallusion still has a foothold on Cinematic quality animation. Personally, I think the real competition is Blender and it's army of open source developers.

Honestly I dont see Reallusion being taken seriously in any professional cinematic space either.
This is because Iclone itself is not suitable for professional rendering or VFX which, to be fair, is why Reallusion has leaned so heavily into their
pipeline exporters to the game engines and Major 3DCCs (except C4D)
CC5 apparently finally supports auto conversion to our Arnold engine shader system in Maya but based on my experience ,in that community, this will not move the needle at all in terms of getting Maya users to invest in the Reallusion ecosystem for so many reasons unrelated to costs
Even when exported to another programs it remains very obvious when you see a collection imotion clips patched together and although there are tools in Iclone to mitigate this most iclone users do not seem to bother using them.
Also Blender users tend to want to do everything
in house and are very hesitant to step outside of the Blender eco system comfort bubble particularly
if the cost is $900 USD (the non sale price for IC/CC4.)
As you stated, indie game devs and Small studios is where Cascadeur
is targeting and frankly beating Reallusion in terms of features and cost and adoption.
They have a ragdoll system and a new auto inbetweening system unlike anything we have ever seen.

Sun, Apr 13Underneath the footages it says "created and _rendered_ in Character Creator 5"
Reallusion offers pipelines to Blender and Marmoset. I don't know much about Marmoset, but it looks tempting to me.

I only use iclone for animations and to use the Indigo Render render, because I never liked your Iclone render engine.

Wow!! its rare to find Iclone user still using the Indigo render engine.
Reallusion dropped it so soon after adopting it
and did the same with NVIDIA Iray.
In their defense, no one is creating high end internal render engines for their 3DCCs the days except for the video game engine devs.
So reallusion has focused exporter tools with latest being omniverse.
BTW, Daz will soon face a reckoning for making Iray their
primary render engine as NIVIDIA seems to have moved on to omniverse as well while the DAZ Iray version does not even support the newer RTX cards and possibly wont be updated to do so.

Fri, Apr 11I like iclone because it was the easiest way to animate, and because it was a bridge between DAZ and iclone.
The one thing, that comes to my mind is, that should Reallusion should decide, to equip their base figure fully anatomically correct
, than DAZ would be toast.
This short clip is mouth watering, since I'm a sucker for 3d photo realism.

The addition of joint control morphs for the limbs
would appeal to a wider base of users than adding those other "bits" of anatomy.
Daz is likely already toast as I believe that DS5 with its breaking all previous third party utilities, is going to be a major disaster, coupled with the addition of the Paywalled versions and an outdated Iray not supporting modern RTX cards.
