Hey folks!
I'm new to this particular platform but I'm not new to DAZ Studio.
So a here's a n00b question while I feel things out around here:
What's a "decent" sale on Renderhub, in your opinion?
I ask because it really varies from store top store.
I'd say in the DAZ store, 70% is a good sale, >80% is a great sale.
On Renderosity, 60% is good, 70% is great.
On Renderotica, for most vendors 40% is already pretty great.
So, where does Renderhub fall in all of this?
Cheers!

In my opinion as a vendor, a "decent sale price" is one that convinces customers to buy my products, without giving them away.
In my opinion as an admin here, a decent "overall sale" is one that drives traffic and sales to ALL participating vendors.
At RenderHub, the vendors are allowed to set their own product prices, and they are in charge of their own sale prices.
They have the option to have up to a 40% off discount. They can also offer coupon codes up to 40% off.
They also get to decide if they want to participate in marketplace sponsored promos and events.
Since RenderHub allows the vendors to be in charge of these things, it is limited to 40% off for both options.
If they were allowed to do crazy things like 70 and 80% off on their own, it would start an incredible race to the bottom.
A $15 product discounted by 80% turns out to be a three dollar sale. If the vendor is on a 70% royalty tier, they would make $2.10.
Race to the bottom pricing is bad for everyone, including the customers.
If vendors can't make a decent profit for their efforts, what motivation do they have to continue making products for the customers?
I hope you can see that these kinds of discounts are not a great idea. Maybe for a short term flash sale, but not as a general practice.
With that said, would Flash Sales or something like that be of interest to you?
I talk to the owner several times a week, and we're always looking for fun promotions to do.
Your feedback is very valuable, so please let me know more about what you think.

In my opinion as a creator, it makes no sense to work for days on a figure, sales 2 or 3 a month to get some bucks for it.
I calculate a payment all over ~ 1.00 $ for 1 h work.
To cut this down to 0.60 $ will be not an inspiration to make more extensions for users.
For a hollydaypromo it will be ok to give a discount of 20% over 3 days.
If one get 100$ a month for his more then 100h work, it is not to many I belive.
It is for the most artists only a hobby and not a thing to get rich

Thanks for the answers, this helps me navigate this store!
Of course I want creators to get paid for their work. I don't mean to be a cheapskate.
I actually work as a creative myself (in an industry unrelated to 3D/CGI) so I know the struggle.
I just wanted to know what the conventions are on Renderhub.
For example over at DAZ, they frequently have sales of 70%-80%.
So if I were to buy something there at 50% - which sounds like a good deal - I would feel like a fool if then the same product was offered at 70% a week later.
But now that I know that here on Renderhub the sales max out at 40% I can adjust my expectations accordingly.
In fact I'm going to buy a few products right now, after finishing this post!
As for feedback:
I can take or leave Flash Sales. If you do them I'll take advantage of them. If you don't do them... I won't mind.
I think what would make me potentially spend more here at Renderhub is a slightly friendlier UI.
My first impression is that the UI here is a little cumbersome; but it's also possibe that I'm simply not used to it yet.
For example, when I go to my "Favorites" I can't see the price of my wishlisted items;
I have to click on each item individually to see what its price is and whether it's currently on sale.
Since I'm new here I can't really be much more specific...
but I think little things like that would seduce me to spend more time, and ultimately money, here.
Hope some of that was helpful!

I totally get you there, and you're not the only one. It seems they have done a good job of training customers to wait for those deals.
Because you're right - if you're patient, most things there can be had for that kind of a deal.

That is great feedback, and I appreciate your input. A new / better wishlist is actually on our own "wishlist" of features to add.
Could you do me a favor? Could you add your input to this thread:

Maybe I can get the priority of this feature bumped up a bit.

Daz and Renderosity can afford very large discounts for the volume q of sales they make.
And Daz more than lately chains discounts after discounts...
They will earn less yes. for sale but they have such a volume that they eat. Apart from that,
it is also a legal practice, but somewhat trawler. To be more egemonic if possible.

From a customer perspective: I’m happy to occasionally buy stuff at 30-40% off here, even 25% if it’s something I really like, whereas I rarely if ever buy anything at Daz or Rendo without much steeper discounts. But it isn’t just because of the expectations and constant sales there, it’s because the prices here are more reasonable in most cases to start with. Daz’s prices in particular seem to be inflated with the expectation of discounts already considered, especially in recent years.
I think if I were a creator, I would think of it this way: the regular price is for people who want things now now NOW, or the pros and semi-pros who will pay for what they specifically need for a project when they need it, and can’t wait for a sale. Then I’d have a modest discount that would be regularly and perhaps even predictably rotated in for the average customer, basically the “real” price. However, I think steep discounts have their place on occasion, because there are buyers on the tail-end of the demand curve who won’t buy something unless it’s steeply discounted. And you’re giving up on those buyers if you don’t have steep discounts once in awhile (I think this is why Renderosity has started doing periodic 70% discounts on a very select number of products, whereas I’ve never seen more than 60% there before). Especially as a product gets older. It doesn’t cost any more or require extra work on the creator’s part to sell those additional units that otherwise wouldn’t have sold, so I think never having a steep discount is leaving money on the table. But of course you don’t want to create the expectation that it will be a regular thing, especially on newer products, or else the average buyer will wait or think of the steeply discounted price as the real price.
I also like sales here because they usually last a few days. I hate flash sales, and even the Daz and Rendo love of one-day sales is annoying. When I see that something I really want is on sale but I can’t buy right away and then I miss it, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
The thing I don’t like about sales here is the reliance on coupons for many of them. It feels gimicky. Coupon codes make sense for a first purchase or things like that, but not as a stand-in for a sale. And it can be a real pain to check the coupon list when there’s a big site-wide coupon-based sale to see if the vendor of the product I want to buy from is participating (if it could be searched, or if coupons also showed up on product or vendor pages, it would be a little better). I much prefer the discount to be seen on the product page. I know it feels like a really special deal when there’s both a sale and a coupon on a product, I admittedly did get drawn in by the hype with the group sales a few months ago. But I think over all, I would buy more if the coupon discounts were applied as sales instead of coupons.

Thank you very much for your thoughtful feedback. As an admin here, I'm always looking for ways to have fun with our promos.
"The thing I don’t like about sales here is the reliance on coupons for many of them."
I'm sorry to hear that. Lots of customers do like them, and so do the vendors.
Ironically, we just launched a new LOVETOSAVE promo today, with a special coupon:
https://www.renderhub.com/forum/1303/love-to-save-vendor-group-sale
The good news is that we like to switch it up with straight sales, too. So hopefully you won't get bored with our promos.
"if coupons also showed up on product or vendor pages, it would be a little better"
That's a really cool idea, and I already have it on our admin wishlist for website features to be added.
Maybe we'll see it soon.
"it feels like a really special deal when there’s both a sale and a coupon on a product"
Yep, it sure does. Some vendors like to do this, and customers love it. I actually do this myself.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Customer feedback is really important.
The owner is dedicated to making RenderHub a great place to be, so we're always listening.

Okay, I've done a few sales on my own, the last being my 3-day Birthday Sale (20% discount) which netted me 6 sales in 1 day (for me an eye-opening record).
But, Foxy, you mentioned something a few answers ago - flash sale. Can you clarify on that?

To Thoreandan and everyone:
"...the prices here are more reasonable in most cases to start with. Daz’s prices in particular seem to be inflated with the expectation of discounts already considered, especially in recent years."
When I started putting my 'girls' up for sale I was "challenged" as far as what to charge for them. True, they are straight characters, no makeups or other things. I settled on $11 for I felt that's what I would spend for something like what I've put up for sale. And, as far as Daz's prices are concerned, I believe they're ridiculous. From @Nov 2020 until mid- to late-February 2021 not only was their gallery shut down, bit they revamped their website. It was sort of like a mom and pop store turning into a Walmart or Kohl's.
"The thing I don’t like about sales here is the reliance on coupons for many of them. It feels gimicky. Coupon codes make sense for a first purchase or things like that, but not as a stand-in for a sale."
I've only done one coupon sale in my store, and the benefit is that while it is a sale, per se, it's not an "all-encompassing" sale, meaning not everyone gets the sale price unless they have the coupon code. Other websites - Daz, Renderosity, Digital Creations, to name a few - also use coupon codes. And, if you know the code, great. If not, you don't get the sale price.
With me, when I have a sale I broadcast it - in my gallery as well as in the forum. And when I did have the coupon sale I broadcast the codeword to some of the people I talk with, as well as in the forum and in my gallery. I also put notices in my gallery at Deviant.
The only thing I don't like about coupons is the minimum amount of time you can have a coupon sale is 7 days. I like to be able to choose the duration of a coupon sale, just like I can choose the duration of a regular sale.

Sometimes I put a product on sale on my own or the entire store for a few days without the need for a coupon... although abusing the offers can be counterproductive if the entire store is abused. I came to Renderhub when I was already a vendor for a long time in Renderosity. And for a time I had both stores at the same time. I already had a price level that I couldn't do in one store that was lower than in the other. Since what I basically did was move all my characters to Renderhub... all of them I didn't have on Renderosity that I didn't put for sale here.
! REPORT
Selling DAz characters is a long-distance race. A character can generate money for you for a long time... that's why you can play with the one-off offers... but don't abuse them. Because you have to count the hours it takes to make the morphs... make the shader or make the texture .. or what the leather merchant you bought cost you... and customize it... the tattoos. etc and that in the end has an economic cost. And now he has to get the numbers even knowing that it is an ultramarathon. Not a 100 meter dash

Yea, nobody ask for the time you spend on your PC to build a Figure. Even the cost of electic here in germany are horribel. Near 160$ a month.
And the expenses for one Figure comes back, so God will, within 1 year or more.
Nobody will get rich on it.
The price here is on the bottomlevel to all other sides, so what for ram it in to the ground????????
"Geiz ist geil" was a motto some years ago in germany, but it was only good for the merchant, not for the factory.
I see it in that way, all discount are only a profit for others then the artist.
4 me it means : stay away from this actions.....

I haven't seen the deep discounts of Rendo and DAZ (where, unless you need it like now, wait until it's at least 50% off). One thing I have noticed is that the discounts here tend to be recurring among vendors, similar but not quite what the big boys do. I guess when you get to know the patterns and habits of places, you know when to jump (wait for the sale or get it when you want it).
Another thing that might need to be taken into consideration is how much use you think you'll get out of it. Sometimes you get more out of that $30 figure you got at full price than the $3 figure you got at like 80% off. And let's face it, we're more likely to impulse buy when you see that deep discount and cheap tag attached to it.

Fairly new here and thinking of opening a store.
As a customer, I've bought 3 products so far, 1 about $60 iirc. I am happy with that product and will likely buy another 1 or 2 at some stage; the price is off-putting somewhat, but I feel like work has gone into the product.
... This is unlike another product I purchased. The morph was very nice - but I don't buy morphs of characters which is what (in affect) I did; the merchant resource, however, hadn't even been altered (yes I own it and compared); this vendor won't get any more cash from me.
If it had been Daz, I'd have returned the product; not sure how easy it is here, but it makes me cautious about spending cash again. The first vendor, as already said - I will buy again.
There is a consideration with digital goods though; Cash Flow is king. The devil is of course in the details, managing price to maximise said cash-flow. I have a set amount of income, and I allocate some for a hobby- let's not talk about the thousands I've spent at Daz. (Think I've spend about $10 this year; my store credit ran out months ago.).
What I think might work, is an introductory discount on the first purchase on a vendor's stores. There are a couple I would consider.

"Fairly new here and thinking of opening a store"
Welcome to RenderHub. We would love to have you as a vendor. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
"I feel like work has gone into the product"
I'm pretty sure I know the vendor you're talking about. And yes, I think they do put a lot of work into their products.
"this vendor won't get any more cash from me"
Unfortunately, I know of a few vendors that you could be referring to.
Don't be afraid to use the review system to make your message clear to the vendor.
That might help them understand why they're not getting repeat sales.
"If it had been Daz, I'd have returned the product; not sure how easy it is here"
RenderHub has a 30 day refund policy.
If you're not satisfied with a product you purchased, and the vendor cannot make things right, just shoot a message to Support.
That will also help get the message across to the vendor.
Full details can be found here: https://www.renderhub.com/info/legal#p09
"an introductory discount on the first purchase on a vendor's stores"
Vendors set their own prices, and control their own sale durations and percent off.
Vendors can also offer promo code coupons valid for discounts on anything in their store.
Let me know if you have any other questions, or need help getting started as a vendor.

I just read the posts in this thread. During the reading it made me come back to memory of an advertising slogan of Lidl stores in France: "the true price of good things".
As a customer I always have doubts when I see a significant reduction (70 or 80%). Isn't the base price overvalued to make me believe it's a bargain? This is a strategy that was used by French clothing traders years ago during the sale period.
It is very difficult to establish a selling price for a virtual object, the seller knows the time spent and the income he wants for an hour of work. As he never knows the number of copies that will be purchased, the sale price is unfortunately not a simple division, but more a bet to achieve the goal!

@Foxy 3D
Thank you for your response; I'll consider returning. As I've now used the shape (partially) in a character, it doesn't feel right to return it, unless I remove that part from the character. I will bare it in mind for future though.

I agree, I am always critical when I look at a discounted item. Stores sometimes have a product line that always has a discount for certain folks, when I'm purchasing, I ask myself: "Would I pay full price for this?"
If the answer is no, and it frequently is, then I feel that that the full-price is a sop to justify heavy disount.
I have sold elsewhere, but not for years. Work out how many copies (x cost) you feel will recover your time. One has no control over how often an item is bought, but remember that there are no overheads in digital products over and above the website costs - at least for artists selling through 3rd party sites. Because there are no overheads associated with produce additional copies of the product: Cash Flow is King. It's about discovering what your customers will pay, and there will be potential customers that may chose to purchase only when you're offering discounts.
When I buy from Daz, well I don't get out of bed until the discount hits 70%. I am also critical and prone to return an item when it uses merchant resources (although it depends how much effort they're put in; if they've obviously made a number of changes then I'm fogiving.) as well as when looking at modelling; two of my pet hates are: infinitely thin cloth and infinitely sharp/straight edges on 'hard surface' items.
Anyway, that's enough of a rant.
