Why is the Ambient Occ Map in Daz3D actually rendered in shades of grey and black? When you create something like this in Substance Painter, it's mostly white and has a slight milky or greyish tint. So: why is it exactly the opposite in Daz3D?
Not really a Problem, I'm just wondering.

From what I read, in Iray the AO map is not used, because Iray creates those types of shadows automatically; I'm including it in case someone uses it in another program.

Sat, Jun 06Uhm it is used. By default every genesis 9 male or female has the weight set on 1.

Sat, Jun 06Yes, I know that the new shaders for all Genesis games use those parameters, but they practically use a Specular map and not a traditional AO map. I tested all those parameters with those maps and nothing changes for the reason I told you before: Iray creates those shadows by default, and I'm referring more to the traditional AO map. The Specular map is the one supposedly used as AO in Daz.

Sat, Jun 06Sorry, but that snot right either.
There is Specular map also- a total diffrent one.

Substance gives you true occlusion, which means it does not care much about what it represents or the emulation it is intended for. To be honest, I have never used it as it is. However, I do use it within Substance Painter, mostly as a grayscale that I modify with filters to drive the blending between several layers, at least sometimes.

Sat, Jun 06I hit, as usual, send too fast. In DAZ, the OC map I believe is applied only against specular highlights, but I'm not 100% sure abut this.

It can be used as roughness or glossy map in some cases (Glossy being the inverted version of a roughness map). Sorry, can't elaborate more, I had way too much beer tonight.

Sat, Jun 06While I'm at it, there is an application called Materialize, it is very fun to use to generate normal, bump, AO, edge from a plain texture. By the time suvstance painter scans all the materials, you can easily generate 3 times more textures.
