3D Shopping: What Draws You In, What Turns You Away? (CLOSED)

Hello everyone! Hope that you are well!
I'm curious about your buyer's perspective on 3D products and product presentations. What aspects draw you in? And what instantly makes you close the site/tab? Share your thoughts!

I currently make my art with Daz Studio, I have been rendering for 9 years and with Daz Studio Iray for 4 years.
What is it?
Drawing me in requires a clear product title that explains what it is.
Is it clothing? Is it a character? Is it something else?
The artists needs to use words that tell me what I will be clicking on and convince me I want to see more.
Good renders sell assets
The product renders need to show off the asset and clearly indicate what it can do and how it can be used.
The more information presented through renders, the better since the visual medium is my first impression.
When I look at renders by a seller, I look for their attention to detail. If they are showing me a lot of grain in the image, feet not in contact with the ground, poke through or other simple errors I think twice about their product...if I don't know the seller they need to make confident in their abilities. They don't have to impress me with their artistic sense but they do need to tell me they pay attention to detail.
Description, description, description
Words are important and what you tell me about the asset can make or break a deal. Little details are important.....don't start by telling me how to install the product...I know how to do that...tell me about the product. WHY should I give you (and RenderHub) my money? List the assets I'm getting so I know I'm getting my money's worth (in other words what's included) More than once here at RH I've looked at a product and then moved on because the description was minimal or lacking.
Price
Daz users are generally cheap, many that I know don't have the money to be spending as they please. (I do but I'm still frugal about my purchases)
We love a sale, any sort of sale price on an item. (Even 10% is good)
I will buy things I 'need'.....and that can be an actual need (perhaps for a particular render or I immediately see a render I'd like to make with this asset) or a perceived need (the seller has convinced me this is the best thing since sliced bread)
Ratings
I rarely trust other people's opinions...and when it comes to Daz assets most people who rate tell you very little. They use a few words of praise and that's it. Rarely do ratings tell me enough to sway my decision one way or another simply because they communicate so little.
I could probably write more but this hits on the important things.

Tue, Jul 25, 2023I share this opinion, some sellers (especially for Daz Studio) have a description which after a few lines leaves the potential buyer perplexed. We do not know if the product is a garment, a pose or a character!

Fri, Jul 28, 2023@bikdingle - This is fantastic feedback.
Much of this is exactly what I tell vendors when they contact Support and ask "what can I do to sell more products?"
Thanks for sharing. I hope many vendors see your post.
@guy91600 - I totally agree. Many vendors are missing out on sales because of poor product descriptions.
They also miss out on search engine traffic. If the search engines can't tell what the product is, it won't rank well.

Some I think can be useful if done right. I agree a "great product!" doesn't really do much for anybody besides maybe make the producer feel good. I know when I give a review, I try to give my overall impressions of a product - if I like it, don't like it, think it's alright. Sometimes the product gallery (user renders) can help tell a review, since you'll get a variety of looks out of 1 particular product, often more than what the producer often provides.

The slick visuals, interactive features, and seamless user experience are what grab my attention.

@undeadcrabb - Thanks for starting this very useful thread. I'm sure I'll be linking some vendors to it.

One thing also to keep in mind is... details. I've seen a number of items that look nice in select renders but then because of some attribute (or lack thereof), one has to be careful with how to use it in renders. I remember on a different site there being an interior room with no door to get in or out. ......................yeah.................... Something may look cool, but it still has to function correctly. I do get that there might be certain technical limitations involved for select objects (like certain suits of armor moving or not moving like they do IRL)
Another thing (this is more a me personally thing) are imitation brands. I get not using actual brands, but a number of imitation brands hover between parody and slap-me-with-a-better-name that just ruins my sense of world immersion. Some can be edited out, others not so much.

Mon, Jul 31, 2023Brands are valuable intellectual property, and the use of real brands and trademarks without permission is a breach of trademark law. So who really cares if an imitation brand feels like a parody? What choice do we really have?

Mon, Jul 31, 2023Like I said, I get that part, I'm just saying that maybe they could be a bit more original for those of us not exactly interested in having imitation knockoffs that are more suited for cheap parodies.
I think Bikdingle worded my thoughts for the most part. (very good comment Bikdingle!)
What draws me in are good promotional images. If attention has been paid to the images it gives me the idea (and I am mostly right there) that also attention to details can be found in the product.
Especially for characters: promo images that show the quality of the skin are important.
What turns me away is:
- lack of description (in general)
- bad promo images (poke through when the item is clothing)
- skin without detail (sometimes just due to bad lighting)
Just my two cents..

When I am browsing, I am looking for something specific to meet the needs of a particular project I am looking for. So.......
What draws me: Is it what I need? It's literally my only draw anymore.
What turns me away: It is not what I need.
I understand that I am not the "typical" buyer, I'm pretty much over the stage of buying say....... a piece of clothing based on how nice the final render looks. Because I don't want that dress to look like it does in the render. I'm going to make it my own. I'm not buying the render, I am buying the object.
So don't take my advice. If you want to rope in more sales you're gonna have to be as detailed as possible, use all the right marketable words, and show off amazing renders. That being said, I have seen people pass on good models and other stuff because the renders "looked bad".

In my short time as renderhub customer I have seen that what bikdingle wrote doesn't always necessary have to be the case. While all valid points there are vendor's who obviously put heart and soul in their presentation. Give as much detail as possible. Write down everything. Provide friendly user experience and they get little to no sales. Also, they even undersell themselves in order to be more accessible to the customers. I have seen wonderful things at 16 dollar's and have seen just another pretty white girly for over that price and it's nothing special or ground breaking as they are often presented. There are those who stand out with unique character's, clothing designs, props etc paired with a beautiful artistic presentation which is a breath of fresh air when you compare it to the standard. Those basic promo's, risque shots and over the top ChatGPT description that have a lot of sale's. Sometimes even just short curt description through which I deduce this person has no real love for what they created and, in a way, when I look at the pictures, it shows. The way I deduce this goes in this manner-I watch rating's, follower's and comments. In event this is a new vendor and I am not entirely sure about giving them their money I look through their socials. If they has been active for a couple of month's to year's on serious project.
If they have done commissions. If I see their art has been featured on main social software page. If I see they can make thing's in softwares other then Zbrush, Maya and make textures in Substance painter that already tells me a lot about who I would be supporting with my hard earned money. If they worth it. I do try to be one of those rare customers whose opinion you can rely on because I go from me. I want to know that what I see in promo shot's is exactly what I get. Also, what I like is vendor's who fix the issues with their products. While shopping at Daz that is rarely the case. Tickets get days to be processed, so I just gave up giving them the money.
So for me what makes or break a sale is a social presence to boot. I hardly will support a vendor who is here to earn a quick buck by doing what's popular and sells. I will much rather support those who don't follow the crowd. Guess I am weird. To me beautiful renders don't do a thing. I don't have issues with grain because as far as I am aware of it you can't really get it completely out of daz renders.
