OK, I really tried to like G9. I have failed. I think the fundamental problem lies in the androgenous base mesh, & the rigging.
I have found though, that the more I tried to like it, the more I ended up disliking it.
Anyway, to the point of the thread.
It is a heartfelt request for continued support of G8F / G8.1F.
For my preferences & uses it is vastly superior to G9.
What has prompted this request is the sudden migration of lots of vendors from 'Rosity to Daz.
It is obvious that any G8 content that they had available will be suppressed there in favour of G9.
So that is it.
Thank you for your time.

First thought is to recommend the MMX clone so you can use G9 clothes on G8 characters. Second.. I still see stores in 'osity.. are they migrating or just opening up another store? Not sure what's going on there. Might be that the era of exclusive venders is over and one can open a store in all the market places. Last, for what it's worth, I personally avoid 8.1 because I like the expressions I've picked up over the years but yes I agree, please continue supporting G8 and G8.1

Tue, Apr 23, 2024Anything moved from anther store to Daz will be exclusive at Daz, Rendo is dragging their feet pulling down products vendors have told them to pull down, Vendors are being told it will take 5-7 biz days to do it (but also we need to submit a product id list like this: 12345,12346,12347,12347 so it can be AUTOMATED lol so why say it's automated but also will take 5-7 days?

Tue, Apr 23, 2024Yes, Rendo killed off their Exclusive Vendors role and Exclusive Products, which also meant pay bumps were gone, there was also other things that happened that's not ness public so I will not dicuss them here, but many vendors (including myself) are not happy and are moving some or all of their catalogs to Daz.
I myself WILL continue to make G8 content at least for here, my kofi and Patreon stores, It is unclear how much longer I will last over at Rendo as it seems at least once a week they make a bonehead move that effects vedors negatively
BUT, rest assured, as long as you all keep buying, I and others WILL keep making G8 products for you

For me, I love G8. I have very little G9 items or models. I also have a difficult time working with G9 models as a whole. I don't know what the issue is exactly but it is probably the androgenous base as Kluz suggested. I also don't care for the rigging, and a lot of the poses look terrible to me. The only pluses that I have found for G9 is some upgrades to textures and the expressions.
Looking forward my support will continue mainly for G8 and 8.1. I will offer a few morphs for G9, which I will probably convert to G8 as well. But outside of a few morphs for G9, my plans are to continue work with G8. There's plenty of life still left in that model.

Either we love without forcing ourselves or we miss out with DAZ products like in real life. If I like a piece of clothing it fits in my wardrobe if I need it. If I don't like it, it stays on the shelf!
It's the same for my neighbors, either I get along well with them and when I pass them I talk to them, or I just say hello as I continue on my way!

I myself am sticking with G8 (and waiting for G10). I guess the rub is when you see something nice for G9 that you'd like your G8s to have. G9 does have a decent content pool now (not sure if it's anywhere near G8's yet).

Like many others, I have a lot invested in G8/8.1.. Many of my favorite characters are G8s. I don't see G8 diminishing anytime soon as long as artists see a demand for it.
G9 seemed like a product that wasn't quite ready for market, but was pushed out anyway to meet a deadline. The roll-out was a mess, and DAZ seemed to handle it with arrogance. I was really turned off.

Everything leading up to and including G8 seemed like a logical progression.
When G9 came out and Daz explained the new features, and why those features were implemented, it sounded great, but I found G9 to be ugly and frustrating to use.

So in the last year or so Rendo also tries to raise more money by upping the price of Prime, rushing out a version 13 of Poser, and taking away that extra percentage for their artists who sell exclusively at that site. And somewhere in there also tweaking the rules for submissions, making them more restrictive, and leaving interpretation to a few unpaid "staff," as though it were a Discord server instead of a company pulling $1.4 million a year.
Makes for the perfect opportunity for Daz to swoop in and be the hero - with strings attached, such as "make stuff for G9 only."
They buy a chunk of a major competitor, along with their back catalog which users will probably re-purchase for the convenience of Smart Content integration, and suppress new assets for G8.
Of course, everything is speculation since those tricksy Utahans love their NDAs very, very much. But if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

There's no need for conspiracy theories. It was explained in a thread on one of the DAZ forums that Renderosity changed their publishing agreements, and one of the big changes was the elimination of "exclusive vendors". It now works to vendors' advantage to open stores on other sites.
Hopefully they'll keep their Renderosity stores, as I think more choices are better. My initial concern was that DAZ had purchased Renderosity, but that's not the case, at least so far.

It's not that she groups male and female together that's the problem, I find her too impersonal, cold, my feelings...
It seems that there is no excitement around this generation, it's flat. Then there are things that I can no longer do on gen 9, including the shoe poses installation addon for example.

What concerns me most is that less experienced / discerning customers will lap up the G9 new shiny items heavily pushed by Daz, apparently not aware or perhaps even caring of the fact that in many respects they are inferior to what went before. :0/
That is why I am trying to be vocal in encouraging sustained support for G8.
Normally, I do appreciate new things, but they have to be an improvement for me to support them.
At some point I am hopeful that G9.1 or preferably G10 will go back to a male & female base mesh, and will be legacy compatible.

Genesis 9 would be kind of o.k. if this figure has been promoted as a male base figure.
Every male character I purchased turned out to be quite decent.
Female characters are a complete different story, and resemble a lot of that old dark Victoria 4 era.
Genesis 9 has only one big benefit over G8: Expressions, and nothing more.
What a wasted chance, to give us a real value upgrade from G8 with better more detailed Face groups and better weight mapping
(Oh wait, being closer to industrial standards is much more important, than improvements )
Now I have purchased all the hair and all the clothing for G8F, there is nothing to shop anymore at DAZ except environments and props.

The two main reasons I skipped on 9 are it and the morphs were totally unimpressive at release and the high waist style of clothing for females that has been popular for the last couple of years, just bleh! I could probably make 9 viable as of now, but unless I see the outfits that I want and are totally lacking in the Daz world, I'll just stick with 8.

I completely agree. G8 was around longer than expected but as a result, a LOT has been developed for it. I'm not about to move to G9 and start building a library from scratch. I have more than I need with G8 that I will not be buying anything of G9. I will, however, continue to buy G8. Same for G3 and G2 but to a lesser extent.

I don't really use G9 because I think the shoulders are oddly too broad and the hands are so big?.. The feminine one I mean. I could be wrong but I personally prefer working with G8 and I'm still actively making G8 content

For me, I just bring the width of the shoulders in, and shrug them, the it looks a little more feminine.
I really like working with G9s skin, but its the bends in the elbows and knees that just look so unnatural.

I will continue to create for both G8 and G9 I understand that some buyers do not and will not use G9, but G9 has a potential market that I do not forget. Besides, shortly after the release of G9, there was a request in the forum for undress clothes, because there were none, I made a few to respond to this request.

Sun, May 12, 2024I'm glad that you support both G8 and G9. Many of us use both types, and sometimes it's just best to have some things that are optimized for a specific figure type.
okay, first with G9, the eyes and how to make them fit perfectly in the space of the eyelids, it is quite a challenge to make it look good, you have to scale the eye, move it in axes, something risky because you don't know how it will look when you burn it and try the staring poses.
With the teeth it is less complicated, but it also needs adjustment.
Try making a Japanese style face in G9 and you'll find it challenging to get the eyes in place.
The pectorals are clearly masculine, if you want small, sharp or flat feminine breasts it is difficult to make them look good.
The poses and expressions may come out differently than you initially thought due to the strange adjustment of the eyes.
There are too many things to take into account if you use DAZ as an amateur you can quickly get frustrated, however with G8 you won't fail.
Daz should not turn his back on G8 because they close a market although it is good for Renderhub.
With the teeth it is less complicated, but it also needs adjustment.
Try making a Japanese style face in G9 and you'll find it challenging to get the eyes in place.
The pectorals are clearly masculine, if you want small, sharp or flat feminine breasts it is difficult to make them look good.
The poses and expressions may come out differently than you initially thought due to the strange adjustment of the eyes.
There are too many things to take into account if you use DAZ as an amateur you can quickly get frustrated, however with G8 you won't fail.

I'm business partners with Causam3D (who derives his whole income from this) and I produce my own poses and other small Daz assets (and comics)
As a maker it is nice to see people want G8 assets, I prefer using G8 over G9 myself
However if you want to see continued support for G8 the sales have to be there for us
You need to 'like' our G8 products
And favorite them
And give the product a five star review
And when you use them in a render in the gallery include a link in the description and/or use the entries for 'used in this render'
You can also upload a render to the product page itself so people can see what other interpretations of the product are
And you need to spread the news far and wide at other places you post (when they allow it...Rosity and Daz don't let you advertise items from other sites)
This will also help RenderHub overall by increasing its traffic
Also if you see people stealing our stuff at the pirate sites you need to report it (to us at least)
Though I've had items for sale in my store for only a short time 1/3 of the sales of items I offer for both G8 and G9 go to G9
When the market share of G9 reaches more than 50% an artist has to begin supporting it more if they are in the business of making money off this
If they're a hobbyist and don't rely on income then they don't need to respond as quickly or even at all

I've tried a few more G9's. Still not impressed.
The skin mats are really good generally but there are folks out there who make excellent skin mats for G8 that IMO
are just as good. G9 hair is also very good generally, but there are also very good examples of G8 hair out there.
Some of the pose sets can be wonky, but not all.
The dealbreaker for me are the super fake-looking eyes. I found a product on the DAZ store to add reflections to the
eyes and it works ok. So that's not an issue for me any more, but the eyes still look really really fake. I feel I shouldn't
need to obtain something to add reflections to the eyes, but that's just how it is. If the eyes were made properly, this
wouldn't be a problem, but whatever. That's just how it.
G8 is is still for me.
