I am wondering if that is legit. Vue seems to still be sold on eon website for the usual megabucks, but being released for free lol.

Sat, May 04, 2024Well I have already downloaded and install both Vue 2024 and Plant factory 2024,
No registration or Connect to the internet after installation, involved.
you agree to the EULA and it's yours to keep
just like Daz Studio except you get no tech support from Bentley

Sat, May 04, 2024yeah I am grabbing them too, have not installed or scanned with malwarebytes yet though. The plant libraries is taking some time lol.
Stone Age software..
For example, only Vue makes a distinction between the CPU cores per version. For example, I had Vue Studio that only supported 8 cores, while CARARA, which is 10 years older, takes all CPU cores and CUDA's. No other 3D app participates in this and they develop the engine for all cores and cudas. In itself the software is still not bad, but personally I still think it is outdated if you compare it with Daz nVidia and today's render engines like Unreal. Then you had C3D where all the content was available. After a hack, everything was off the radar for 2 years until e-0n decided to introduce a different business model. I and many others left the sinking ship and were waiting for this moment. It's a shame but it's their own fault.

I am animated film maker.
After downloading and installing both Vue and the Plant factory I have concluded that there is nothing there I cannot do better with my current Blender/Maya setup.
However there is some value in the
stand alone plant factory app for easily creating pre animated foliage that exports to other 3DCCs like Blender or C4D & Maya
20 years ago, I was quite besotted by the vue render engine because it looked so much better than the Poser & Bryce engines I was still using back then.
Today I have Blender with Cycles & EEVEE, Maya with Arnold and C4D with Vray.
Vue looks terribly dated by comparison
I have grown so bored with & jaded by Photorealism in CG , that I am doing NPR and 2D animation these days and enjoying it much
more .

Sun, May 05, 2024Making animations with Vue is hell for sure and I can tell you. The only thing I find interesting is the eco/paint system function. I love that one! Furthermore, the render engine has remained the same over all these years. But I admit I still use Vue every now and then, even doing some modeling in boolean stuff.

Sun, May 05, 2024Is the Vue camera still shooting into nowhere on occasions, as 10 years ago?
I remember this used to be a frequent PITA, on doing animations in Vue.
I remember this used to be a frequent PITA, on doing animations in Vue.
Actually I made
no attempt at animation as one look at the "tools
made it clear there have been no effective update since I was using Vue 6 "easel"
Back in the early 2000's
I tried importing a big stonemason set exported from Daz studio as FBX and the results in Vue were useless as it does not seem to recognize complex modern materials and the whole set was flat black.
I used the free diffeomorphic addon to import the same set into blender directly from my Daz library(no FXB export needed)
and it is perfect.
Tossed in a small pre-animated crowd, with my procedural crowds addon, and I am all set
The only thing left is to replace those still Daz palm trees with pre-animated ones from the plant Eon plant library.
