Social Media Promotion Tips for Daz Content Creators
Someone asked for advice in another thread about a different topic.
I was about to answer the question there, but I thought this info would be useful to others who might not see it in that thread.
My original answer was going to be shorter than this, but I figured I'd share as much as I could. So... Here ya go!
-----
Vendors who promote their products on social media definitely make more sales.
There are a lot of places to promote, and it can be difficult to choose where to spend your time.
Here are some tips to get the most return on your investment of time.
-----
WHERE TO POST:
Even though DeviantArt has changed a lot lately, I can still recommend it as a great place to start for Daz vendors.
I see the RenderHub analytics, and I see a lot of traffic coming from DeviantArt that converts into sales.
RenderHub also has a DeviantArt group that you can join, with a special gallery folder for product promotions:
https://www.deviantart.com/renderhub3d
Twitter/X is pretty good. You can get some decent exposure and engagement.
If your post is unique or engaging, you can get a lot of views.
For Daz vendors, Instagram is a good choice.
You can see results fairly quickly, and I see a lot of Daz vendors and users making friends there.
ArtStation... You can get a lot of views and engagement in the gallery there, especially if you post outstanding images.
I see vendors getting pretty good results with YouTube. Shorts work well if you post them consistently.
Vimeo is not really a "discovery" platform, so you won't get a lot of organic views by posting there.
It's a great place to host videos if you want to promote them elsewhere.
Reddit can work for you if you don't over-promote. The Reddit community doesn't like that at all.
There are subreddits that will accept 3D work. Just make sure to post with titles that clarify your work is 3D, and not AI.
For Daz-specific posts, this subreddit will accept artwork and product promotions:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Daz3D/
Facebook is definitely pay-to-play.
If you don't know a lot of people to hook up with right away, it might take some time and a lot of work to start getting exposure.
For the best return on your investment of time, it is not recommended to start there. Unless you want to pay to boost your posts.
From what I see, Pinterest is a waste of time for Daz vendors.
Either the Pinterest algorithm doesn't seem to understand "Daz content", or the Daz users simply aren't there.
There might be some people who get good results, but I don't know of any.
I don't know what to say about Tumblr.
It might work for "individual people" - but RenderHub's account has only 61 followers, and we've been posting there for years.
There are many other choices, and you can't go wrong with any of them.
The more opportunities you create for people to see your products, the more chances you have of earning a sale.
-----
WHAT TO POST:
Although you can get away with posting anything, you'll get the best results with eye-catching lifestyle images.
Show your product in use, and create a vision for your potential customers of what they could do with your product.
Show happy people! Give your characters a happy expression, as if they're excited to be part of your photo shoot.
Use color and contrast effectively. Make your image pop and be a "scroll-stopper".
Use a short, but informative description that highlights your value proposition with a call-to-action.
What are the standout features of your product? Why should people buy your product instead of a similar item from someone else?
If your product is on sale right now, tell them. Create a sense of urgency to take action.
And this *should* go without saying: LINK TO YOUR PRODUCT PAGE.
Make it easy for people to find your product and buy it. That's why you're posting in the first place.
For some reason, I see so many people who fail to understand the importance of this.
Try mixing up clean "images only" and "images with text".
Many people despise images that are cluttered with distracting text and logos. But others are immediately drawn to it.
You'll never know what works for you until you try. For RenderHub, we mix it up and do both.
Facebook used to be very strict in the amount of text that was allowed on an image.
Now, they encourage it - as long as the text doesn't needlessly obscure the image.
And I'm pretty sure Facebook has the metrics to back up why they made this change.
For videos on YouTube, you pretty much *need* to include big bold text on your thumbnail image if you want to get seen.
If you use YouTube, I'm sure you know exactly what I mean.
-----
PROMOTE YOUR PRODUCTS ON RENDERHUB:
Use the RenderHub Gallery.
We don't recommend posting gallery images that are just a giant ad, but the lifestyle-type images mentioned above are perfect.
When you submit a gallery image, there is a "marketplace items used" section where you can include your product page URLs.
Your gallery post will contain a thumbnail link to your product page(s), so users have an easy way to find and buy them.
Use the Product Showcase section of the forum.
This section of the forum doesn't get a ton of traffic yet. But it's really easy to do and doesn't take much time.
It's one more place for people to see your stuff, so it certainly can't hurt.
-----
The above information is strictly my opinion based on what I see in RenderHub analytics, talking to vendors, and my own research and observations.
I also attend a lot of marketing webinars, because I like to know what's happening and keep up with how things evolve.
I am certain other people will have different opinions, so please share your experiences.
We can all learn from each other!

Wow - thanks so much for all this info!!!
I definitely don't do enough promo for my projects (too little time with all the products I'm developing at the same time) ... but I've definitely bookmarked this thread.
Once again - THANK YOU

Sun, Jun 09, 2024Sure thing! I get a lot of personal messages from people asking for advice, and I usually just end up copy/pasting my replies.
This makes much more sense. LOL
Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the feedback.

As someone who has been on tumblr since the site's infancy, it has never been a good place to sell products or generate traffic for about 80% of things, not just 3D. Mostly because it isn't an actual social media site, but also because there are no algorithms - Everything on tumblr circulates via user interaction and your dashboard is primarily a user curated experience with little influence outside of those you already follow. So in order for your posts to be seen by a wide audience, you need to have the follower number to circulate it or get it picked up by a blog that does have that number. This means it has an exceptionally long shelf life once it does get picked up (I have art posts from 2015 still popping up with interaction notifications), it's just that it getting started and passed around enough,"put on the fridge for everyone to see", is iffy for even some of the big blogs. You'd have to put in double the work of building yourself a community on top of running promos and even then you may not get much traffic from it.
They did start a paid feature recently called Blaze that will put your posts on the dash's of a random number of users, but it isn't all that effective and mostly used for jokes because we're also more interested in memes and textposts, honestly.
It's a good showcase for some people - just make it very clear you're not using AI - but it isn't somewhere you're going to get much traction specifically for sales.
Also it's kind of a long standing joke that we're all broke.

Sun, Jun 09, 2024Awesome! I have never used Tumblr as an individual, so I didn't know how that worked.
Thank you for your insight. Much appreciated!

Sorry to say but today that is no longer something you should be telling people to do, at least NOT in the org post...
These days most platforms are suppressing posts with links in them, so when you post a direct link to anything in your main post you will see far far less views then if you left the link out.
Twitter/X is the biggest baddie for this, with reach being cut up to 90% in some cases, Facebook is hit or miss, YouTube pretty much depends on WHERE / WHAT the links are you post in your description.
So, what to do about it???
1: create a link hub at any of those free sites out there, I personally recommend linktree https://linktr.ee/ create your free list there and list ALL of your various links, your stores, your socials, your personal site etc, put THAT link in the bio's of all your various social media profiles.
2: Put product page links in the comments of your post, but add a 'call to action' in the main post like "info incoming" "look for info in the comments" or "see bio for more info" DO NOT use the word "Link" in your call to action, because lately even having the word "link" in your posts can also get ya spanked by Uncle Elon for example
3: Watermark your renders with your link hub link, if you're using Linktree for example, then your link can be nice and short like: https://linktr.ee/3DLoki
And last but not least, build yourself a nice little network of like minded folks, on any platform you're posting on, make sure to FOLLOW your fellow artist / vendors, and when you see them announce something SHARE IT! and likewise, when they see you announce something they in turn should share it.
I totally understand for example if you're a car maker you might not want to share another car maker's posts for fear of loosing sales to that person, but there is ZERO reason if again for example you only make and sell cars, that you can't share character, clothing, poses, hair, props, scene posts, you must remember as much as the companies have tried to 'change' things, SOCIAL MEDIA is allllll about being..... SOCIAL lol.

Wed, Jul 10, 2024I stopped adding links due to shadowbanning. These people don't get it. And this stuff is so niche, you'll get at most 1% of your viewership to even think about your product. Those who do know what your products are about, are just doing the same thing you are. Nothing works anymore, social media has been weaponized (monetized). You don't go anywhere for free.
Not even Linktree works, and I have had one for many years. All people do these days is endlessly scroll through their feeds. They are bombarded with meme videos and AI generated images. We are toast.
RenderHub can say all it wants; it just doesn't work anymore. I have been proof positive of that for ten or so years. And of course people say I'm just full of it. Watching my follower numbers across publishers remain flat for years should tell these people *but they ignore it*. Social media isn't about being social, it's about delivering advertising via the Skinner Box model.
If RenderHub says it works, then why don't I see RenderHub vendors on any of my feeds? If that doesn't prove it, nothing will.
But nobody listens and I am accused of wearing a tin foil hat.

Wed, Jul 10, 2024It works, but you must constantly make changes on what and how you post depending on the platform itself.
In all honesty, if you been experiencing this for 10 or so years then it might be in your very best interest to delete and create new accounts on the problem platforms, I spent about 17 years doing SEO and social management for both mainstream and adult companies, IRL and 3D stuff, the last 10 years of the 17, I did it for Renderotica/CGbytes as part of my admin title there til Oct of 2023.
I've only seen these harsh changes in the last 2 years myself, and the total post suppression around the last 10 or so months now.
But if you're actually ACTUALLY shadowbanned then not posting links won't change that, you'd need to make a brand new account and start over sadly.
I will agree 100% though that right now, everything you said rings true, reach is abysmal and damn near a total joke, nothing better then having thousands of followers and getting less then 100 views to a post.
Or posting ANYTHING where I actually want / need feedback and I get ZERO, makes me wonder "Why the hell are you evening following me?" lol.
I could go on and on and on about this, but you know what I'm talking about, just know that there ARE work arounds, but you just need to keep up on all the stupid changes and be ready to switch up at a seconds notice when those methods stop working.
Or you could just cave and spend money to advertise, it's the old sad but true saying "it takes money to make money" crap

Wed, Jul 10, 2024Making new accounts don't work. I did that with Twitter. It's even worse than the account I made back in 2007. I've also spent money on advertising. Nothing works.
I spoke with someone over on Twitter years ago, suggesting that IP addresses are a part of the data collection. They flag your IP addresses, you're cooked no matter what you do. I played the game for way too long and it's way too stressful trying to game the algorithms. So I consider "social media" a storage backup for all my completed art. I will no longer spend 4-6 hours a day managing all my social media accounts for no returns.
Again, speaking of deleting old accounts, a bunch of them are *very* old and I would be dumping long-time fans with a very long history. Deleting accounts is not a viable option for me even if it would work. But again, these companies record everything including IP addresses. If you use a proxy, you're treated the same way because there's no traceback to someone they can advertise to.
I've talked to inflencers and managers, and successful artists, they all said the same thing about my accounts. "You know your brand, you know your audience, you post regularly and engage with people. Your characters a re beautiful and full of personality. You're doing everything right. I don't understand why this is happening to you". Truth is, social media flipped that switch, the trigger in the algorithms that literally hide my posts. I have to tag fans to my posts for them to see the posts. I've had long-time fans message me with concern, asking me what happened and why is there no more art. I was not showing up on their feeds. That was somewhere around... 2016-2018.
It's ironic, a prominent illustrator attacked me and my fans out of jealousy back in 2019, yet I get maybe 12 likes out of nearly 1000 followers on Instagram. There's a glaring disparity. But Joe Public says I am crazy. And I am far from the only person with this problem.

Sat, Jul 20, 2024I know regular artists that say the same thing. They think the algorithm has them shadowbanned, and now that I am active on twitter I am apt to agree. After following like 20 more people, I rarely see their posts show up in my feed at all anymore.
SM are dead. They still have an impact on SEO, but you're unlikely to get sales from social media. They are all designed for endless scrolling and showing ads, not to promote your stuff unless you pay for it. Most of your followers don't even see your posts! What's more, SM can easily ban your account, you won't be able to talk to a human to appeal (AI bots are everywhere!), and you'll have to start from scratch, over and over again.

I'll have to disagree with that. I have access to the Google Analytics reports for RenderHub and clearly see sales conversions coming from social media traffic.
One thing is certain, though... You won't get *ANY* sales from social media if you don't try.

I think Foxy3D is referring to the start of the discussion so it is: *) https://www.deviantart.com/ and the renderhub3d group https://www.deviantart.com/renderhub3d *) Twitter/X *) For Daz vendors, Instagram is a good choice.
*) ArtStation... You can get a lot of views and engagement in the gallery there, especially if you post outstanding images.
How many sales? : Only the administrators have the information to reply, but I believe that these figures will not be disclosed as this is a matter of ‘professional secrecy’.

Without a doubt, no other traffic source even comes close to organic search engine traffic.
That's part of the reason why the item name and product description are the first two things discussed here:
https://www.renderhub.com/learning/how-to-sell-like-a-pro-and-make-more-money
As far as percentages go...
You can 100% guarantee that you will make 0% of your sales from social media promotions if you don't do it.

Wed, Sep 25, 2024It would be nice to know a ballpark figure comparison.
As far as for me, my wonderful heart collar found its way onto 3D asset warez sites so I'm officially toast now. That's what Google "told me". I'm not even on the regular list anymore. (I checked a few minutes ago, as I ditched Google as a search engine of choice years ago, been using DDG since Covid)
"I have access to the Google Analytics reports for RenderHub and clearly see sales conversions coming from social media traffic." Come on now, let's be honest. That is a stat for RenderHub as a whole. There are perhaps thousands of vendors on RenderHub. What's selling? And what's being passed around to warez sites?
I steer around Google now whenever I can, that company has gone all in on AI.
As far as for me, my wonderful heart collar found its way onto 3D asset warez sites so I'm officially toast now. That's what Google "told me". I'm not even on the regular list anymore. Wed, Sep 25, 2024To add to this, I just did a DDG search. My collar is #2 on the list, and the first two photos are mine.

"...It would be nice to know a ballpark figure comparison..."
As I stated above, no other traffic source even comes close to organic search engine traffic.
I guess I could say it's not even in the same ballpark.
"...let's be honest. That is a stat for RenderHub as a whole..."
It certainly is, and I wasn't trying to be dishonest.
RenderHub gives all vendors the ability to see a variety of stats for their own items in Google Analytics.
You just need to set it up in the Google Analytics Tracking section on your Store Settings page here:
https://www.renderhub.com/store-settings
There is also a link there with instructions on how to set it up.

"...There are perhaps thousands of vendors on RenderHub. What's selling?..."
That information is easily available. Simply change the sort order on any category page to Best Selling or Trending.

"...heart collar...not even on the regular list anymore...DDG search...My collar is #2 on the list...the first two photos are mine..."
When I search Google for "Heart Collar For DAZ Studio" I see your products in positions 1,2,4,5 and 6 in Google Images - so that's good.
Google uses different ranking signals for images vs regular results.
To improve your regular results, you could try re-writing your product description to be more optimized for the search terms you want to rank for.
Without getting into technical SEO - a simple strategy is to look at the pages that *are ranking well*, and do something similar.
Currently, I see this product on RenderHub listed at the top spot for the above search phrase:
https://www.renderhub.com/dattakko/dt-heart-collar
I imagine Google likes that product description because it uses the terms "Daz", "Daz 3D", and "Daz Studio" at least three times - and yours has none.
There should be a new post soon regarding optimizing product pages for search engine success.
There already is an article written - but I'm not sure if it will be posted here in the forum, or in the Learning Center.

Thu, Oct 03, 2024Mine has DAZ Studio in the title, and that should be enough. Anyway, out of principle, I avoid using Google whenever I can. And as I have said repeatedly, I am not concerned about sales volume.
You'd make a great politician.

"...Mine has DAZ Studio in the title, and that should be enough..."
But it's *not* enough.
"...I avoid using Google whenever I can..."
That certainly is your choice. But it doesn't change the fact that a majority of people *do* use Google.
That majority of people are your potential customers. Not optimizing for Google means missed sales opportunities.
"...I am not concerned about sales volume..."
Then what are you doing posting in a thread about increasing sales volume?
I'll leave that as a rhetorical question...
