Many RenderHub users prefer Genesis 8 to Genesis 9 and are waiting for Genesis 10 hoping that Daz will stop the experiment of a Unisex version with male and female morphs.
This is the big criticism made of Genesis 9 which also forces us to use this asexual version to make the clothes and especially the morphs of the clothes. If we make the clothes, and especially a morph on a gendered avatar, the clothes do not follow Genesis' movements correctly and the morph gives a result totally different from what we wanted to do.

There have been several thread s about the disadvantages of G9 here in the forums

Sat, Sep 21, 2024Hi! Ty! I`think i`ll go with gen 8 or 8.1 for my main characacters at least.
Ty for your time
Ty for your time
I'd go with 8, 8.1 personally. Simpler for the most part with more all around themed assets for clothing and such.

Sat, Sep 21, 2024As I understand it, expressions do not mix between 8 and 8.1. Poses and expressions do not mix between 8.x and 9. Clothes from 3, 8 and 8.1 work on 8; while clothes from 9 need a clone (MMX makes one) to work on 8. While environments are universal; look for IRAY in the description if you plan to use an Nvidia card otherwise it may look dated.
Explore the freebies and play the sales early on.. this can QUICKLY turn into a shopping hobby if you let it.
Also (based on the thread title) watch your licenses. I've noticed a trend with newer stuff having more restrictive licenses. Hope all this helps and good luck!

Fri, Oct 25, 2024You can use g8F expressions on G8.1F.
You just have to delete the dummy place holders in the data folder.
There is a thread that was posted on the Daz forums detailing the process, but I dont know if posting the url is premitted.
Here is the process as posted by PerttiA
Making the G8 base expressions (and any expressions that are using them) work on G8.1 requires removing dummy/placeholder expressions that are installed to G8.1 morph folders - These dummy/placeholder expression files have no other function than to prevent the base G8 expressions from loading.
The dummy/placeholder files are located in;
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files, can be more if you have additional DAZ expression packs)
Please make sure you are removing the files from G8.1 morph folders and not G8 morph folders.
Note 1; If you are logging in to DS and letting DAZ Connect (within DS) to install/update your content, you may have these also in an other location that has "\Data\Cloud\" in it's path
Note 2; Do not remove any files from "FACS" or "FACSExpressions" folders
You just have to delete the dummy place holders in the data folder.

Hi there!
Well, in my opinion, based on my experience (i'm not an expert, i'm an indie developer) it will depends a little of what you want to achieve. I made terror a game using Unreal Engine and in this game i used Genesis 8 Male and Female. As DoroThee237 explained very well, the best part of having diferent skeletons for male and female are that the outfits work better, especially in Unreal Engine. The only thing i always had a struggle using Genesis 8 for game development is that when you want to remove something from their main skeleton. For example, if in your game you will have battles or very different creatures like aliens, monsters and etc and they will be a Genesis 8, you will have a hard time adding different eyes or teeth and applying on the base model as everything is "stuck" in the model. Here's the trailer of my game:
As you can see, the character's eyes are not Genesis 8's, i wanted to use this other eyes because they are more realistic and easier to use, it was a hell on earth to add them on the model and remove genesis's, so that's a thing i had to struggle with sometimes.
Now for Genesis 9, i'm working now on my next game and as it's gonna be a stylized style i decided using it instead of 8. The good part of having a unisex model for this is that if you're going to use Unreal Engine you will notice how "chaotic" it can be if you have a lot of different skeletons for different characters like, one for main characters, other for NPCS, one for monsters and etc. Sometimes it's inevitable, but if you use a single one for most of them, the work looks "cleaner", the game's size is smaller and Unreal doesn't "scream" all the time about creating new skeletons lol.
In this game i need different eyes and teeth for most characters (one of them is a monkey lol) so if you can model those things separately, it makes your job easier. Here the problem with clothes may occur depending of the character's body so i would recommend you look some tutorials on youtube of how do some fixes on morph clothing if you need it, there's a lot of content so that should not be a problem.
Here a small promo of what i'm working now:

So yeah... sorry if it's a very long text but that's based on my experience developing games using Daz's characters so far, i will be honest that i'm having more fun and my job got easier since i started using Genesis 9, but i believe this opinion varies from person to person. And as kwekx said, have a LOT of attention on your licenses, and if you want to use something that doesn't have an especific license for game creating or you're confused, try to get in touch with the artist and see what they can do for you (NEVER use something in your game if you don't have a license for it). Good luck with your game!

Sun, Sep 22, 2024Thank you so much, and you welcome! Oh awesome! If you can, post your progress here on Renderhub, i'm sure people will like to see it. Good luck with your next projects!
Whatever suits your style and budget, honestly. Even Genesis 3 has its benefits beyond mere affordability. But Genesis 8.1 can utilize a whole lot, and there is a treasure trove of stuff out there for it, free or cheap as hell since G9's release.

Mon, Sep 23, 2024I will be using renpy. I already know the basics. Dont know yet what software i`ll be using for animations
Genesis 8: Older, lots of content, mature generation.
Genesis 9: Newer, lots of new content, some issues mentioned above.

Ty for yout time guys. I`ll be asking lots of questions because i`ll be full time with this proyect and my knowledge is very limited. Im a scriptwriter so i guess the writing part does not scare me (lies, its always super scary and super hard haha). So i`ll be around. Ty again

Quick question. How automated, outside of learning the software, is Ren'py if all your wanting to do is make short stories with our renders and no game elements?

Mon, Oct 28, 2024Hi! Il be having buttons, minigames and other stuff. The renders will be really important part of the game but not all.. Im choosing renders as an art key to work with, but it could have been cartoons or some other tipe of image. Ty
This might be a little off-thread, and I apologize for that, but I think it's hilarious that the only games DAZ assets get used in are adult titles, especially given how badly DAZ wants their stuff to be used in the AAA game market.
I wish you all the luck with your project, and again, I apologize for hijacking your thread just to laugh at DAZ.

Mon, Oct 28, 2024hahaha. Im choosing daz because i know its the software that most dev use for erotic novels. Im not even sure i know another way to do this jaja. And i guees its also quite friendly with new users as me. Ty!!
I'm not a creator so my opinion is strictly about using DAZ assets to create scenes and renders.
That beeing said, I would go with G8 :
- even if G9 start to get some content, it can't compete with the variety of cloths, hairs, accessories already available for G8
- honestly, although you really want to create closeup renders, the quality of G8 is suffisent enought
- since DAZ pushs for G9, you may get G8 stuff at a cheaper price
About G8 and G8.1 :
You can't share textures between versions (a G8 skin material can't be applied to a G8.1 character out of the box : there is plugins for that though)
And if you already own G8/8.1 stuff and want to buy G9 models, before buying new cloths, hairs, poses, ... look for plugins that allow you to convert from G8 to G9 (it work quit well and save you a lot of money).
Side note:
One thing I don't apreciate about G9 characters is, since the base body is shared between genders, it depend from model to model, but relatively often, I find female models having a too "manly" body.
