Can a Morph be Mirrored Across Limbs?

As the title suggests, I'm just wondering if there's a way to mirror a morph from one limb to the other. For example, if I were to use a D-Former to create a basic morph on the left arm, is there an official way (directly in DAZ Studio) to then mirror that morph to the right arm?
It has to be doable directly in DAZ Studio is what I'm getting at. If a plugin is required, that's fine too just as long as it's done directly in DAZ Studio.
Any help much appreciated.

Yes, you can. You would need to make sure the figure is at base resolution with nothing but the dformer shaped adjustment, export the figure as an obj. Then use morph loader pro and choose your obj. After choosing the obj, click on it in the menu to expand it and you'll see an entry for "Morph Mirroring", right click on it and choose "X: Swap"
Be very careful to not have any other morph loaded when exporting the original figure with the dformer. Figures are not really symmetrical and character morphs even more so, and make sure they're in the base pose. Otherwise if you you export it and the left thumb is bent, and right thumb isn't. Your right thumb is gonna get bent when you export with morph mirroring.
Hope that helps

It sure does! Works perfectly and that was actually a lot less involved than I thought might be required to achieve it.
Thank you, it's very much appreciated!
And by the way, I don't know if you're aware of it but in that same options dialogue there's an option called "Reverse Deformations". And what that option does is allow you to build your morphs on posed figures too. I believe it cancels-out everything other than the new morph, so it's great for fixing awkward deformation while in pose mode.

Sat, Dec 07, 2024Yup. Reverse deformations is how us vendors build jcm's and other morphs to correct issues with posing with characters. It's a little trickier with what you're trying to do as morph mirroring is going to mirror against the figure. My recollection is that morph mirroring plus reverse deformations can lead to wonk.
Happy to hear it worked out for you.

I used DAZ Studio for over a decade before I even knew it could be done, lol! I was amazed when I first found out about it. But yes that's what I mean (for JCM etc). JCM is something I'm aware of (and I know what it does) but haven't actually set-up on a figure yet. I'll have to watch a few tutorials, it's been a while since I last did.
I just checked Reverse Deformations after using the mirroring technique and I see what you mean by wonk. I wouldn't be able to use it for that, but at least good ol' Blender exists so I'll stick to Blender for that purpose.
