Is 3D Graphics Losing Its Popularity?

Hey everyone!
I want to share something that really caught me off guard. Throughout my years in the design industry, Ive noticed a drop in the need for 3D graphicsunless its specifically for game development. Ive worked with After Effects and Cinema 4D, and in the past, Ive dabbled in Maya and 3D Max. However, Ive seen fewer and fewer projects that actually require 3D work.
My most recent 3D-related assignments involved light installations and handling multiple light sources. But these days, Im mostly focused on After Effects, video editing, and 2D motion designincluding some pseudo-3D elements. This kind of work seems to be in higher demand these days compared to full-scale 3D motion graphics.
What do you think? Are 3D graphics really losing steam, or is this just a passing phase? Id love to hear your perspectives and experiencesfeel free to share them in the comments!
Maybe there is something wrong with my works? Or skills?

So - it can't be because of your work: it looks really great
As a DAZ CC, however, I have also noticed a decline in interest in content (including in the adult sector). This is - not only in my opinion - due to generative AI: with much less effort (and knowledge), significantly more images can be produced much faster. They all look similar and (in my eyes) have no soul ... but the models have at least 6 fingers ... on each hand

Thu, Jan 02It's the small but significant details that more often than not ruin an otherwise usable AI image.
I think we're nearing the point where we're going to see if AI as a "make my art and make my fiction for me" means will be the mainstream go-to or if it's just a passing trend that will soon be relegated to niche dedicated communities. We've seen shiny new things in the tech and entertainment world(s) that ended up being just a passing trend rather than the Next Big Thing (that would stick around until the next Next Big Thing arrived to make the masses forget about that).
3D I think will still have a place either way, though adjustments and adaptations will need to be made. Painters didn't go away after the introduction of the camera, 2D sprite artists didn't go away with the dawn of 3D models...

Thu, Jan 02I share the same thought. It's still too early to make a first assessment, it's mostly a huge bubble that could or could not burst in a more or less distant future.
As you say, many technologies have "pchit" and are now niches, VR headsets, the era of deep-fakes, 3D TV, democratization of mobile gaming with Android etc etc etc.
On some sites, simple Chat-Bot to help with navigation have been renamed "AI assistant", they are still as limited and stupid...
AI is also a big marketing bullshit and money, in smartphones, some cars, have eaten AI in all sauces... XD
For 3D content, if the bubble does not explode in mid-flight and it persists and settles forever, it will be, I think, like with video games, some users will continue to want ultra customizable renderings, handmade, "in their own way" in the smallest details (via 3D software) and others will be satisfied with the "snacking" rendering done on the fly in a few minutes via an AI...
Maybe they will change their mind after X hours of going around in circles, generating the same content after X attempts and to end up with content that they did not want to 100%...

The cost of entry to become a really good 3D artists is very high either in terms of money
for software and Hardware or time learning even if you use FREE softwares like Blender.
The cost of using AI is way lower and the learning curve practically non existent
So yeah 3D art is in its final days IMHO
because the lay people in the audience
or the commercial market laces have never cared about you Daz, C4D, Maya etc Skills
only about if the finished output gave them the fleeting dopamine hit they crave
You appear to have some AI generated Art pieces on your instagram
as you self how long it would have taken you to create those image with C4D or after effects.

It's a paradigm change. Most comments mention generative AI but it's still early days.. I expect, like search engine algorithms, to see a healthy drop off in the quality of AI results. Like search, AI has to interpret and filter what you want from millions of possibilities and then, also like search, AI has to add its recommendations into the result. For many, that will be "good enough".
I suspect there is a wave of intermediate tools yet to come. Stuff in between AI prompts and AI post processing that lets the artist tinker, add style, or remove the uncanny valley.. That's where I suspect we will see established 3d tools and formats repurposed for new workflows.

O.o The problem very few are talking about AI is the large amounts of power required to run the Servers that might make something useful.
We are finding out that funding for these Large server farms is lacking as the out come is not what was promised to the investors who are still waiting for the golden egg to come forth. Until they can solve the hallucinatory output that they try to wave away. People who make something will still be needed but will fast food Art take over? Hard to say but the If you got Talent and skill You will still have a job But if You are lazy learn this " Do You Want Fries With That?" Sorry old Joke From Teaching.
