SOMA Progress
3D Render by Causam3DI'm spending some time today going through SOMA, both the architecture and the furniture props evaluating what to add and how things stack up. Right now it looks pretty good.
SOMA will be offered in modules. The main module will be the building itself which also includes the solarium and the rooftop jacuzzi. along with a full suite of material presets for the skylights, beams and walls.
The furniture module will include the pit group (shown here in the corner of the room), the sofa, the easy chair and the ottomans (although we're still considering what else to include, if anything). All furniture pieces are comprised of separate objects in a subset. The ottomans for instance include six objects: three ottoman bases and a cushion for each one. This is so the user has the maximum number of options as to how to use any piece. The pit group has seven cushions, the sofa has three, and so on. You can load each set individually of course.
The final module is the bath set which includes the tub/shower piece, the towel rack, a makeup table and bench, and some towel props that are all dForce objects with carefully designed physics to allow them to interact realistically. One towel is a wrapping towel that loads onto your character as an accessory follower and falls realistically. This makes it useful for poses where your character is holding the towel to her chest, for instance. It's fun to play around with. The other towel is a towel for draping. This loads at world center and can be moved anywhare in the scene where it will interact with any other object in the scene. So, all you have to do is lay it on top of a chair, a character or anything else and it will fall and conform. Be sure to remember to set the collision item in the smoothing tab beforehand. Two of these towels load on the towel rack pre-simulated as well. No, there will be no toilet. Just pretend that your character never has to use one. Some things are just too gauche for rendering in our humble opinion.
We're considering what furniture items to add. We won't be adding a bed as we already have two nice beds in our store. We will be creating bundles for SOMA so it's simple to offer one that includes one of our beds. We also have a nice little breakfast dinette that would look nice so we'll be bundling that set as well.
SOMA will be ready next week on our usual Thursday release day.
