If you're familiar with Goya's work, then you know the original work has inspired horror for centuries and was not a commission but rather was a private piece for display in his home, giving some insight into the artist's frame of mind in his late years. It has also been speculated that Goya's son Javier was the actual artist behind the famed "black paintings."
