The Flood
3D Render by RedSpartan(Continued from 'The Beast')
She landed heavily but training and instinct sent her into a roll and kept the shotgun in her hand. She came up quickly, her upper spine a knot of pain, spinning and facing the oncoming creature which had somehow punched her from behind. Without a second’s thought she fired, and the narrow tunnel was filled with the deafening noise and glaring flash of the shotgun's destructive blast. The Beast stumbled backwards in surprise and pain. It looked down as best it could with such a thickly muscled neck, studying the damage that Mya had been able to inflict, its chest peppered with bloody holes where the pellets had entered.
Mya knew at that range she couldn’t have missed even with her eyes closed. She stepped backwards hesitantly, realising the full force of the shotgun at point blank range had barely made an impression on the creature. Its head came back up and it cocked it comically to one side, staring intently at her. Mya found herself transfixed, readying the gun for another shot, though she doubted it would make much difference. The Beast screamed again and prepared to charge, thumping its damaged chest as if the bloody wounds meant nothing. At this distance she could easily fire and hit it again, but it would still be upon her in a matter of seconds.
She suddenly felt Shaana’s hand on her arm pulling her roughly through the portal, and she stumbled over the threshold into the section beyond. The Beast came charging on all fours, but Shaana was already pushing the bulkhead door closed. The creature hit it with full force and sent the girl flying backwards and onto the floor, but for a moment the it seemed a little stunned, as if the it hadn't anticipated the heaviness of the door or Shaana's strength at holding it back against its assault
Suddenly, there was a loud rumble that echoed heavily through the empty corridors, distant but loud. The creature hesitated and stepped backwards, turning to see what had caused the sound. Mya looked at Shanna who still lay on the floor, a little stunned but clambering back to her feet. The girl glanced at her, her face questioning.
‘Explosion?’ she asked, grabbing her rifle from the floor. The sound had given them a moments reprieve, as the Beast had hesitated at the unexpected distraction.
Mya didn’t have time to answer, or ponder the relevance of the sound, as the thing stirred itself from its brief confusion and turned to face the pair of them again. Without hesitation, she rammed her shoulder against the partly opened door and pushed with all her might. It was then she became aware of another noise, roaring their way and getting louder. Water! Lots of it, coming towards them through the narrow confines of the corridors at great speed. Seemingly oblivious to this new threat the creature hit the door from the other side and began to push back just as a tumultuous wall of liquid came tearing down the tunnel at them.

Saw a picture by British artist Col Price on ArtStation of a woman fighting an alien creature in a flooded corridor, and wanted to see if I could emulate it somehow (and fit it into the story). At the time I had no idea how I was going to get the rushing water to look realistic, then I discovered Iray OceanWorx by KindredArts over at Daz. I had to re-scale it and manipulate it with the magnet tool quite a bit in Cinema4D, then struggled getting the textures to work but finally managed to find a solution. The wave planes that came with the set really worked well to create the spray and I must admit I was really pleased with the result (So much so that I broke one of my own rules and repeated the process for the next picture, which I'll upload at a later time).
Thanks as always for looking, and for the faves and comments on the last picture.
