Shadecloak - Unknown Gift
3D Render by VtuberBluebirdHi, it’s me Bluebird!
I was not really active lately due to, as mentioned, I was participating in a Fashion Contest hosted by RenderHub! YAAAYY!!!
Let’s dive into behind-the-scenes!
1st Chapter: Idea, Theme
When I first saw this contest through YouTube shorts, my mind was blown away and I thought of joining it because why not, there is nothing to lose.
Then I was thinking about whether I should use my OC or some other character. After a lot of thinking, I chose Stellar Blade Eve. Recently, I finished the game, played around 150+ hours in it, and will do even more. It’s one of my favorite games ever — the story, art concepts, characters, the environments, and everything in it is just perfect.
Choosing the outfit was the hardest part. I was looking through a lot of ideas and concepts. But nothing was to my taste nor fitting Eve. Then I was like, what if I make a mysterious outfit which she is going to pull off and reveal the actual outfit, and with this said, I began my 2-month journey creating what you are seeing now on the screen~
2nd Chapter: Process of Eve Model
First, I extracted Eve’s model out from the game. Then, through hardcore tutorials, GitHub explanations, and so on, I created this! Ta-Da~ Converted it to auto rig pro rig for easier use, and that’s it basically. Nothing special here~
3rd Chapter: Okay, so how were the Outfits created?
Based on some of the reference images, I created some silhouettes on Eve’s body to see what looked good.
For the mysterious outfit, I was basically thinking about covering Eve as much as possible to create a hype of some kind.
That’s how I made this jacket with a hoodie, some pants, and a big ass skirt for confusion and a more elegant style so it does not look just pale, you know.. XD
At this point, I already knew I would make small animated short videos, render them out, and put them together in a much longer final one.
4th Chapter: Even more Outfits!
After creating the base look on Eve for my actual contest entry and the jacket, I was thinking about making a fan outfit too, because why not! The Stellar Blade and NieR Automata collab was so good, the outfits looked so good, bro like, omg!
With this being, I made a Stellar Blade NieR inspo battle outfit for Eve, I tried to combine everything I liked from the DLC and in-game. Took screenshots and began cooking.
5th Chapter: Contest Entry 7 layered dress
When I started working on the dress, I constantly checked that I’m not making something similar to the game, because, oh boy, she has a lot of outfits. I was and I’m still nervous as f to this day. After careful inspection and several changes to her design, I decided to go with sapphire blue and silver.
At this point, I still had no clue about what I would call the outfits as an official title. All I knew is that I wanted a 7-layered long skirt on the back and a short dress on the front with some ruffles, and a big ruffle on the back.
6th Chapter: The full Process of the Workflow
So if you are wondering how this was done, it’s super easy. I created the outfits using only Marvelous Designer, even edited the UVs there. After a hard time doing the animations based on this actor:
https://x.com/xixiyusakana
I baked all cloth simulations, created the long ponytail sim via cloth simulation, created a fake hair simulation with geometry nodes. Remade Eve shaders based on the game files, exported my favourite shoe for the 7-layered dress and jacket, and grabbed Raven’s shoe. I was thinking that after her epic hardcore boss fight I would make it look like Eve took her shoes and wore them with my battle outfit I made for her XDD
Did some recoloring to the shoes, made sure everything was working before the next steps!
7th Chapter: Runway Scene Editing
So after downloading the scene, experimenting with lighting, I was like hmm, something is missing. So I began my search for runway ideas and decided to make something in Eve’s style. Adding basic shape with emission, edited the runway scene several times. The runway looks shinier, making the flooring more like lines where the crowd is staring at Eve. Also deleted the lights from the scene. I just had no idea how to put them to work, I’m sorry. I edited the walls into a sky and clouds. I wanted to add greenery to the scene, not just sci-fi-looking objects.
That basically covers most of the work so far~
8th Chapter: Finalizing, Rendering
After finishing the outfit shaders inside Substance Painter and editing them inside Clip Studio Paint, setting up Blender cycles for rendering, animating the camera, FOV, and so much more, it was time to render. It took me 3 days to render everything all together. Processed the full video inside Premiere Pro. The final look got sharpening, vignette and small editing as well as audio VFX I found. I was choosing Roxanne OST from Stellar Blade; after listening to all of the musics from the game I liked, I decided to go with that one. I edited it to match up the video speed. When editing was done, I felt like yes this is the one, I’m really happy with it~
After being done with everything so far, I decided to give these names to my outfits for the contest:
NieR Inspo Battle Outfit got this name:
Silent Victory
The Voidstride
After a tough fight with Raven, Eve took her shoes as a trophy, knowing they held power. This lets Eve move fast and strike from unexpected angles, making her nearly impossible to catch.
Emil, the mysterious shop owner, found the outfit all tucked away in his collection and gave it to Eve. Now, wearing the Voidstride, she’s a silent force, always one step ahead.
Mysterious Jacket got this name:
Shadecloak
Unknown Gift
This outfit was discovered near the Opera House in the Great Desert. Its origins are unknown; no one knows where it came from or what era it belongs to.
With a hooded jacket that shadows Eve’s face, leaving only her mouth and nose visible, paired with long pants and a flowing, semi-transparent skirt, the outfit wraps her in an air of quiet mystery.
Wearing it, Eve carries the unknown with her — a silent secret that draws curious eyes and keeps her true self just out of reach.
The 7-layered dress got this name:
Gift of the Last Spark
Blue Seraph: A Memory Stitch of Peace
Outfit Description:
In a peaceful future of Xion, Roxanne and D1G-g2r created this special outfit for Eve, a tribute to her strength and sacrifice. Crafted with care and delicate touches from Lily, each layer holds memories of battles, friendship, and memories.
Debuting at Xion’s first fashion show exhibition, the flowing skirt’s seven layers tell Eve’s story: complex, graceful, and powerful.
They didn’t make this for fame.
They made it for her.
A spark of gratitude, stitched into memory.
9th Chapter: Overall Experience
Joining this contest was a fun experience for me. This is something I would never think of doing since I never joined a 3D-related contest in any form. So yeah, this is my 1st one, nervous a lot, happy, tired, and mostly excited. The final results look crispy, not bad at all. I’m mostly satisfied with them, wish I could do better since it has some small errors, but it’s fine. Overall, I hope everyone else will like it as much as I did~
It was a tough and very time-consuming long project but worth it all the way! Creating something new is always good. Contests like this bring you out of your comfort zones and make you do something you never thought you would do.
Also as additional information to anyone who is thinking of joining any type of contest:
make sure you have all the patience, time, energy, and motivation.
very important to plan beforehand before joining one.
and overall just enjoy the process, let creativity take over, and have fun~
Shoutout again to RenderHub for making this possible and gathering all the artists in the world, showcasing their creativity. Thank you for reading my post, it was very long, I hope I covered everything!
