Unruly Genie
3D Render by maru_berlin"Now listen to me! I know that I have to obey you and fulfill all your wishes, but there are RULES!
First: Don't drop my lamp, it gives me a headache.
Second: I will only grant your wishes when I am fully dressed and wearing makeup. That usually doesn't happen before 10 a.m.
And finally: I will NOT appear naked in front of you, unless you want me to make your clothes disappear too, which neither of us wants, right?
Now put the damn lid back on my lamp and come back later!"
(Playing with a new outfit, poses and a some bits and bo(o)bs I aquired lately, unfortunately the old fashioned way by buying them. Smoke painted in PS using a cloud brush. Again rendering the background and the figure separately, this time to create room for the smoke.)

Really excellent!!!
I wonder if we can create a similar picture in one pass (i.e. without merging separate pictures) by hiding the bottom of the body and simulating the smoke with a VOB !?! I'll try that whenever I get some spare time!

Wed, Aug 063 things to consider:
both the genie on the chequered background and the background rendered each in about 30 minutes, normally my "full renders" need 4 hours to complete.
I already hid the bottom part of the genie to speed up the rendering even more. Only the leg ornaments were firmly welded to the rest of her adornments, so I had to erase that.
The advantage was that I had 2 separte layers so I was able to add my own DoF very precisely and also could have played with the lighting (though it was not necesary, since I used a HDRI and just made that invisible in the figure render, so lighting was consistant).
And although the idea of a VDB smoke cloud appeals to me, I never got that working for me properly. Painting (and most of all: colouring) the clouds to my taste was a matter of minutes in PS. It also allowed for two smaller whisps of smoke from the open lid.
But I'd be very interested in seeing your version. I have done 2 similar ones in the past:

Wed, Aug 06Thank you for this detailed answer.
I don't deny the benefits of creating montages with multiple images, but since I'm not very comfortable with post-processing and Photoshop, I'm always wondering how to create an image with the solutions I have in Daz Studio. Post-processing editing is really my last resort.
As for using VDBs, I'm not sure if it will work but I'll try anyway.

Wed, Aug 06I thought so too. But watching some (all?? *laughing* ) tutorials by Piximperfect on YT and occasionally the ones by Dreamlight (just register on his website and you will get VERY regular information, but also some interesting vids to watch) helped me a long way and by now I spend roughly 30 minutes on any picture to get them more to my liking (at least I think so). This includes the use of some painterly programmes (amongst them Fotosketcher, which is free and a more or less 3 clicks application), and lately Boris FX Optics for some stunning fx made extremely easy - and all that without AI.
If you are interested, just ask me, too.
At times you'll find links to especially useful tutorials and maybe this will ease your use of postwork.
