A Bar a Girl and a Forty-five
3D Render by RedSpartanHiding from the Mob, the Malloy brothers thought she was here to show them a good time....
A couple of years ago I was doing a number of noir/pulp inspired images and was getting inspiration from the works of some of the great pulp artists of the fifties such as James Avati. I decided to set up a pool bar scene using the Bar Interior set from SoulessEmpathy at Daz. I changed it around quite a bit, retextured it in places, moved stuff around, put in a new bar and added a number of models from various sources (Sketchfab mostly) such as the pool tables, lights, weapons and such. I spent so much time on it that I did what I usually do in these situations, and lost interest and moved onto something else. To be honest I couldn't figure out what to do with it all once I'd finished...ah well, such is life! When the competition came along I eventually had, after quite of bit of thought, the idea of a sultry femme fatale leaning against a piano absently pressing a key after dispatching a couple of hoodlums, her face framed by cigarette smoke like Rachel's in Blade Runner. I found a great piano model on Sketchfab and set about creating the character in Daz and setting up the pose and costume. I felt 50's style lingerie was appropriate as I wanted a pulpy, period feel to the image, and to convey the idea that she had used sex as a way to lull her prey into a false sense of security before dispatching them. That's when I remembered the bar scene I'd set up all that time ago and realised it would be the perfect setting for this, so luckily it all came together pretty quickly in the end. Some work in Photoshop to enhance the atmosphere (Ron's brushes coming into their own once again), and it was done. Quite happy with the way it turned out, and one of those few examples of a piece turning out pretty much the way I envisioned it at the start.
Hope you like it, and thanks for looking
