South American Boleadoras 3D Model
Boleadoras, also known as bolas (Spanish term for balls), were a type of weapon used by the South American Indians to hunt animals. Bolas were also used by gauchos (South American cowboys) to catch running cattle. The weapon consisted of two or more round stones tied to a leather cord, which was swinged and thrown at the target prey just like a lasso.
The model's boleadoras are two of a set of three bolas found in the southern region of Uruguay. This area was inhabited for centuries by a large population of hunter-gatherer, aboriginal people called the Charrúa, who also used weapons such as boleadoras to hunt. So it is highly likely that this model's bolas belonged to such population.
The meshes were created through photogrammetry techniques, ensuring that the resulting models look exactly the same as the real stones.
In the .blend files, the models have been resized to match the measurements of the real objects.
The boleadoras have been retopologized to provide a cleaner geometry. In any case, the original models are also offered as .obj files with their own materials and textures, so that you can customize them as you want.
