Mon, Nov 10It was game seven of the World Series and Toronto hadn't been there in like 32 years.
Catching up on everything around the house, or at least trying to, lol. Maybe a fire outside Saturday night with some wine.

Sat, Nov 15It's hidden in my name, just one of the many meanings of the word when it went a bit viral in 2008/9
Objective was to make a silly word and get it in the dictionary. I failed but somehow made it to the urban dictionary XD

Fri, Nov 14Apple crumble is always a winner. We made one last month apple and blackberry all grown on our allotment. We had so many apples this year enough for 6 households and then some.
Raking leaves, restoring vintage headboard for our bed, raking leaves, weekly shop, raking leaves, put snow tires on cars, rake more damn leaves,
fiddling with vintage car, thinking about getting an apartment so that I don't have to rake leaves anymore.

Sun, Nov 09This is where evergreens have the advantage. The fallen needles also make the soil very acidic so that grass doesn't grow, saving one the trouble of mowing. I covet my one neighbour's yard as it's all evergreens.

Sun, Nov 09Last year I had to mow the lawn, and there were leaves from the neighbor's plum tree on the grass. You know what? My lawnmower picked up the leaves while cutting the grass, so forget about using a leaf rake, just use the lawnmower; it's less tiring and faster

Sun, Nov 09That doesn't work when you have several cm of thick, heavy, wet leaves on the lawn. I have to rake hard to get them out from between the grass and I have a LOT of leaves. I keep our papers and cardboard, spread them in the woods then toss the leaves on it. It keeps the brush down and creates a park-like forest. When I have a dead tree to get rid of, I chop up the branches and trunk then lay it all in a hollow. I'll pile larger cardboard on it then layer it with leaves. This creates a warm, damp environment under the leaves/cardboard that facilitates decomposition. The little bugs go crazy and rot the tree and branches quickly.

Mon, Nov 10I got about a third of the lawn done yesterday and enjoyed the time outside. There was no wind and it was sunny. Even though we had a terribly dry summer (like much of the rest of the northern hemisphere) we seemed to have a lot more leaves this year. Then again, maybe being a year older just makes the leaves feel heavier?

I would really like to go out for a mountain bike ride and play a game of football like I always do on weekends, but I'm still in too much pain from my accident and I don't know yet if I'll be able to do it again, I'll go for a walk

Fri, Nov 14Do you bike a lot? One of my biking buddies took a tumble last month and is still hobbling along on crutches. He cracked his hip. He's still planning on riding back to California to visit his Mom next summer (from the Canadian East coast no less!) but I don't think he'll heal that soon. We're both close to 70 and shit takes longer to heal as you age. I'm a LOT more cautious on the bike these days. I even invested in studded snow tires for the winter.

Oh man - bikes can really be a nightmare sometimes. It happened to me last week: unlit road, piles of wet and slippery leaves... and BANG, Pushee was lying in the dirt. Left knee damaged, left wrist badly sprained. Now saving files (CTRL S) has turned into an acrobatic exercise involving two hands and three fingers

Sat, Nov 15At a certain age, cycling has to be reduced to using an exercise bike; watching a favorite TV program

Sat, Nov 15We're lucky here to have an extensive network of excellent trails. This place was a train hub at one time and as the rails fell into disuse, they became the home of ATV's and snow machines. Gradually local communities fixed them up and now they're in great shape for bikes and pedestrians. Because they started as rail lines they're also fairly flat. I can go for 100 kms in several directions without going on a road. In the winter the snowmobile clubs groom them and they get hard enough to ride or walk on. Not only do we get the benefit of exercise, it's quite social as you can stop and chat with walkers and scratch their dogs. I have friends I know only from the trails.
If you're looking for REAL biking information, the bikepackers have a site where they test products...

I've also adopted the technique of using paraffin wax on my chain. This has extended the life of my running gear by almost 3 times. It's also crazy cheap!

I don't get a lot of free time recently so the weekend is mine. Likely doing some catching up making vehicles. Also finishing of the deforce camo nets I made for a project but there a decent and worthy product on their own. Also making a surprise freebie for next month

I'm quite young, but unfortunately the fall was disastrous, I have damage to both my cervical spine and both shoulders with involvement of the tendons, in addition to the pain, the thing that bothers me is the headache and feeling of nausea, I have difficulty relaxing and concentrating, I sleep little and am often nervous, but despite everything I still love my bike and I will definitely return to having fun, despite everything, I smile and carry on, I wish you all a wonderful weekend

Sat, Nov 15During your recovery you might consider a three wheel recumbent (two front, one rear wheel). They're comfortable and eliminate balance issues. They also go like stink because of the improved aerodynamics and ergonomics. One of my biking acquaintances has one because of balance problems and it's a hoot to ride. I love that you're watching the scenery instead of constantly staring at the road a few metres in front of you.

Sat, Nov 15Thank you for the advice. I'm not familiar with that type of bike. I'll look for information. For now, I can walk and do a little jogging, but my arms are struggling.

Sun, Nov 16I'll put together my cyclist's survival guide. I worked with a researcher from Transport Canada some years ago who was also an avid biker. They get all the statistics and studies from everywhere, and some of the things he said scared the crap out of me. I also learned some interesting facts about visibility and being seen.
After apple crumble for dessert, a crumble for vegetables: leek crumble with leeks, of course, and goat cheese.

Sun, Nov 16Since I'm quite far away, here's the recipe in French. All readers of the thread will be able to benefit from it
1 kg de poireaux
1 cuillère à soupe d’huile d’olive à l’ail
1 échalote
1 verre d’eau
120 gr de bûche de chèvre
50 g de farine
50 g de beurre
35 g de chapelure
20 g de parmesan
sel
poivre

Sun, Nov 16"When a man is hungry, it is better to teach him to fish than to give him fish."
The New Year is almost here, and in France we make galette des rois (King Cake) in early January (puff pastry and frangipane). If you'd like the recipe, just ask!
Personally, I prefer it with homemade almond paste; that's the recipe and the puff pastry recipe I'll be sharing.

My problem with treats like this is that I can't get enough of them... but I shouldn't because of my diabetes. That's why I don't bake anymore (except for bread). But I just had an idea...

I haven't worked with pears very often, but I work a lot with puff pastry. So far, however, I've tended to use savory fillings (feta cheese, onions, grated cheese). But I'll definitely try a sweet version with pears or apples soon

My weekend plans, seriously?
Well:
1) learning Blender and becoming an expert
2) get my character ready and rigged in Blender with all JCMs for hyper realistic Joint bendings
3) Applying hyper realistic skin shaders
4) Building custom environments for use in Mystery - Scifi Movie done in Blender
5) Becoming famous with it, collecting awards and getting rich of it.
6) Going to bed at 10pm on a successful Sunday.
Well, sometimes my plans and reality tend to differ slightly,
but there are obviously more weekends to have a plan for.
Next weekend, I am going to reboot the Superman franchise.
Waiting for DC to call...
Thank you for your attention to this ...
