an insightful video I found about being an oddball artist.
97this just popped up in my feed recently and found this video to be quite resonating for me as someone who makes the art I make as a way to put myself out there for everyone to see. it's lowkey been rough on artists in this weird realm, but I can assure you this video could help out in some capacity or even full capacity.

Pretty interesting video, thank you for sharing it
Obviously, there are going to be way fewer people who like weird stuff, because many people won't understand the art or resonate with it. You should create things that make you happy first and hope for the best.
As for you, I wouldn't use the word weird to describe your art, but rather ''cool'' or ''badass''

Sun, Dec 21, 2025yeaah for those that do get into it, they may not understand it right away or they'll have their own feelings/interpretations which either is fine imo. as long as they got something out of viewing or experiencing the art, I'm satisfied.
also I appreciate the compliments !! I really don't know what to exactly label my art other than like abstract and moody (perhaps lived-in? lol)

If you create art that everyone likes (or at least the masses), you can be sure that you haven't created art

Art is freedom, you have to feel free to do what you feel, I did many commissions and promos and in the end I was almost nauseated by what I was doing, I was losing the desire, my accident stopped everything, now I do a job every now and then and I do what I want according to my mood, I have the stimulus again and I have fun, usually I never look at who does a job, I leave the like or the badge exclusively for the work done, in your case I learned to recognize them immediately, this is because I like what I see..

Mon, Dec 22, 2025part of why I don't do commissions is the feeling of losing my own creative control. like sure I could get paid doing them, but to me it also feels like I robbed somebody if I'm not going 100% by their book. instead, I just have fun doing what I usually do.
also thank you for every like/badge you've put on my works !!
I kinda didn't figure i'd stand out this much on this site lmao
your works are also amazing with how lush, vibrant, and even cinematic with framing and visuals !!

Marketing yourself and networking all depends on what you want from your art and who you make it for. 80 percent of my work I do for myself with the mindset of "if I like it then maybe someone else will". The other 20 percent has been private commissions or TV work. Recently I made canvas prints for myself but they all sold and I have free range of a further 4 as a commission. They want them to match the previous prints but only in the sense it's a series of images around the same theme.
Your not selling out if the work you do for others is true to your self. They hire you for what you do and should respect that as it brings something unique to the project that hopefully blends seamlessly into the clients vision. It's a two way contract after all.
That said don't be afraid to go inward Many times I have "taken my work underground" gone off grid to focus on a project. I often go for long periods of not looking at any other art so I don't get influenced by others or trends. During the competitions I rarely looks at the other entries. It's a personal challenge in many ways but art is for myself a bit like a religion. I may not be the best in any particular field but every thing i do is creative and hopefully has something unique. If the power goes off I get out a pencil.
Never follow the crowd but then you already know that
Keep doing what you do.
Happy Christmas

Wed, Dec 24, 2025I should keep note of that if I plan on doing commissions. Marketing myself I've done a decent job at and I got some connections here and there over the years so I believe I'm in a bit of a good spot personally.
I've also went lowkey a few times in the past few years to really perfect what I do visually and even thematically through the means of the real world and harnessed that into my art.
and I will keep doing what I do, merry christmas to you too !!
