Noob question: G8F hair geometry breaks when body morph applied
87It's taken me multiple tries to get this posted because I couldn't get the site to save posts with images attached. Let's try it now:
OK. Here's one that feels like a rookie issue, but haven't figured this one out yet.
So I'm trying to apply FE K Medium Hair to Genesis 8.1 Female. Looks great in the promos:

But when I apply it to my figure, the geometry gets janky and breaks up the silhouette where it should be nice and smooth. I picked a color that makes it easier to see what's happening:

I'm working with a fairly exaggerated full-figured character morph, but its rigging has been properly adjusted to fit its custom proportions. The Joint Editor Tool doesn't seem to be much help:

It would seem there has to be a way to smooth out those edges to fit my figure. I just haven't figured out what I should adjust.
Any suggestions?

I had a similar issue with another hair product. Check the solutions in this thread and see if any of them work for you.

@G3 Renderworks,
Thank you; that's a start.
What did you get to work?
@chat
Parenting instead of fitting seemed to work at first, but then the hair doesn't pose with her head and neck; it stays stiff and clips into her torso.
Dialing down the hair's hidden FHM property for the body morph removed the distortion, but also no longer fits her head properly.
So far I'm thinking of 2 things:
- Is there a way to selectively weight map the influence of the body morph on the hair so it still fits her head properly but doesn't mangle the geometry at the shoulders?
- Is there a tool in ZBrush or Blender that might be able to "comb" out the jaggies and make the hair look smooth?
I don't know what that tool might be, though. This is what the geometry looks like:

It's made up of multiple single-poly wide strips. So the way ZBrush's Smooth tool works, it can't do anything because there's not enough neighbor information to work with.
And even dialed down, the Flatten Brush makes it *too* flat, and in this case creates a some unwanted artifacts:

Definitely open to suggestions here!

Mon, Apr 20I ended up dialing down the hidden morphs and using the adjustments that came with the hair to fit it. Maybe converting it to dForce would work?
Also worth mentioning one of the other generally accepted solutions: Likely due to the nature of the geometry, a Smoothing Modifier - even at the default setting of 2 Smoothing and 3 Collision iterations - causes the geometry to violently explode:

I just mention that to acknowledge I did give it a try.

that happens when body (or head) morphs affect the geometry of the hair, the easiest solution is to just go to parameters, search for those morphs and lower them to zero
here is an example from one of my characters, its not hair but the wings of this character were also being affected by the body morphs and getting distorted

so I just lowered them to zero

and thats that, this is a problem as old as DAZ

Mon, Apr 20Yeah, I was pretty sure this is one of those problems I might have been warned about early had I not been completely self-taught. Unfortunately,
"Dialing down the hair's hidden FHM property for the body morph removed the distortion, but also no longer fits her head properly."
Is there a way to paint on a weight map that would allow the FHM to fit the hair to her head without distorting at the shoulders? Or anything else I'd not considered?

Mon, Apr 20you worry too much about being self taught. I was also completely self taught, you just learn on the "job" so to speak through tutorials or by looking online for answers. DAZ is 2 decades old and hasnt changed all that much in that time so there is a lot of knowledge about common issues out there
about your question, yeah that is the problem of trying to use extreme morphs things like clothes and hair scream when you try to fit them on them. it is weird that now it doesnt fit the head thou usually by removing the body morphs it would only get rid of the distortion
to be perfectly honest I dont know what to do in that situation, usually I would try to fit the hair manually scaling and moving it around (you first need to unlock it for that to work) or move it to blender using diffeomorphic and fix it there since you have a ton more tools in blender, but fixing it in DAZ itself I have no idea

Have you tried to look at the geometry behind the neck of the character ? if the faces are compressed or not all even, it will create this problem.
If so you can easily fix this in blender using a Draw brush with Auto-Smooth.

Like carso150 said, you need to show hidden properties then change the values of the morphs affecting the hair, then click on the cog and deselect autofollow.
Now, this is for a scene only. If you want to save the properties to reuse the hair, select the hair and save the modified morphs. This will not affect the original ones but only the ones when you load that specific wearable (that is why the modified morphs will be saved under data/vendorename/productname/Morphs so they are unique to the product)
