Ok, it's not all amusing, but it definitely eye-opening. We really need serious regulation passed for AI.

Fri, May 08It has and people just choose to ignore shit. I'm not arguing with these types of people anymore....

Fri, May 08There is no arguing with people who refuse to see or listen to reason.
One reason people turn to chatbots is that they offer a kind of social space where people can say what they actually think without immediately being judged, attacked, or pushed into some extreme political category.
In real conversations today, the moment you express an unpopular or imperfectly worded opinion (no one is perfect and has a phd), someone may label you a Nazi, a monster, or some other unforgivable thing only because you don't fit in his view of the world (which is so egocentric).
Making human spaces safe again for honest, imperfect, awkward conversation will let people speak, disagree, revise, and be wrong without instantly trying to ruin them. After all, we shall all learn from our mistakes, not die for them.
Otherwise... people will keep choosing the machine over the crowd - and honestly, that is exactly what such a society deserves.

Fri, May 08My better half had a friend stop talking to him over some silly thing. It was not even political in nature, although I'm not blind to how today everything somehow turns into a political thing. I can see too how it would be, especially for people who have less social interactions, to turn to a bot that will agree with him without risking a friendship.

Fri, May 08A bot, a friend???
I think that people who don't want to hear an opinion or position different from their own are too used to so-called "social networks," which trap people in a certain way of thinking. Since they have no sound arguments to defend their point of view, they prefer to break friendships, which is much easier to do.

Fri, May 08I think that social media has done serious damage to the human ability to have relationships and work out differences, whether that is with an opinion or something else. The AI chat buddy only makes it so much worse, because it is conditioning people to only accept what they want to hear, and never the actual truth or someone else's perspective. But it has gone too far. Truly. When an AI chatbot's guardrails can be tossed aside to encourage someone to commit suicide, or offers inappropriate material to a minor, or the safeguards can be overridden to learn how to build a bomb, that's definitely unacceptable. There has to be regulation of AI for our safety and sanity.

Sat, May 09I completely agree with what ArtbyMel just wrote. We can only hope that those who will draft this law are competent enough to write a comprehensive piece of legislation that addresses all the issues and leaves no loopholes in the text.
The way governments are trying to regulate social media makes me fear the worst

Sat, May 09It's a very valid point. People do seem to chose machine over the crowd as of late. If it was sporadic about two years ago, it's not so now.

Sat, May 09@Pawngame, I'm sorry. I was the one who mentioned a friend, because what you said hit home and reminded me of that. Having that context in my head, I tried to put myself in the shoes of someone who might want to avoid losing a friend while having an honest conversation without feeling like he has to walk on eggshells.

Sat, May 09@Luxe Muse; No need to apologize, my comment was not aimed at you and i only stated the difference between a conversation with a friend and a conversation with the crowd or a total stranger, actually with social medias it's plural.
I don't want my post to stir any controversy or hurt people in any way shape or form, I was just sharing my vision and ranting a bit, working 90 hours per week for oh so many years, sometimes you gotta rant.
Wishing you all a very fine sunday and a lot of creativity because, well, that's why we're here for, back to work now

Sometimes, a little bit of ranting isn't just good for the soul - it also clears your head and makes room for creativity. So: everything's fine
Have a nice sunday, too
