So I saw this pop up, and I'm trying to figure how best to answer this, because I don't know if either choice really fits me. Do I use it more as a scene customizer/creator or do I use it more as a character customizer/creator? Well, I would say I use it to have this character wear this outfit in this scene striking this pose, which isn't anything overly special. Heck, my content could probably qualify as mere Daz slop for all I know.
Now if the underlying question is whether or not my renders are more about the characters or the scenes... That's open for interpretation, given some may take notice of the scene more, the character more, the outfit more, and some may just like the series (in the event of fanart) or just that I used their stuff (in the event of site vendors).

The options do feel limiting in their rigid questioning, suggesting they referencing of daz studio relative to a work flow that is too specific. For anyone who has used DazStudio for a decade or more, its always been both. bring concrete form to the storytelling ideas in my head. Character within an setting, where's that option?
As a scene customizer/creator
As a character customizer/creator
I don't use Daz Studio
Unless there are more options added, I won't even bother with the poll there cause it will have skewed results that dont meet my definition of use.

I have to wonder about the value of the data generated by such a poll. None of the questions pertain to me, yet I use DAZ Studio for hours each day.

I customize my own characters... and then make scenes with them. I only chose the character option because without characters, there's no point for a scene.
There should have been a "Yes" option.

Mon, May 25Yep! I totally agree. But I chose the scene option in the poll. Because without the scene, what's the point of the characters? What are they gonna do, just stand around in a blank space?

Mon, May 25I disagree with both of them. You can create fantasy scenes, sci-fi, or landscapes without needing any characters - there are thousands of galleries like that, and those renders have plenty of uses. On the other hand, you can easily create characters without a scene. Does it make sense? Absolutely. Character renders work great for placing them into environments created in different ways, and individual renders even work well as stock images.
It's a good question, if it were generic it would be better.
In a recent post, someone revealed that they use DAZ as a digital dollhouse. When I lurked the official forums, someone mentioned they used it like a first person explorer (wandering through immersive environments). Then there are renders, those who render one off portraits and others who render sequences (like comics or animation).
Clearly you buy things to your preferences and this is the interesting thing about the question. Who do you market your products towards? What is your buying preference? I suspect someone would renders image sequences want versatile products with morphs that change scene to scene and a portrait render is looking for the right color, that look to get the image out of their head and into the render. Has anyone else thought of it this way?
Oh, and character.. I guess.. I've been trying to get the right look for my character for ages. And when I'm happy it will be scene.. I guess.. Because that's when I start messing with comics and maybe animation.

Mon, May 25*chuckle* That woulda been me. I'm just playing with dolls and putting my girls through fun adventures. I don't always bother with a render, sometimes a screenshot is fine. It's the process of playing trying new things. I fiddle with my own poses and have them try different outfits. It's the process, not the final result that's fun.
It's like building plastic models. Once the item is built you stick it on a shelf and start another one.
