Hi all,
I have a question regarding the Golden Palace for Genesis 9. I want to separate its materials into UDIM tiles. The only way I can get the islands to show up in Blender is my having it attached to Genesis 9 and exporting only the graft and its shells. But after I’ve separated the materials into separate tiles Daz Studio gives me an error when I try to update the UV sets, as seperate objects. Anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
Thank you

I haven't worked with Golden Palace, but I assume there's no real difference from any other DAZ figure, prop, or similar asset. So my prediction, although it would be really helpful to know what the error actually says, is that you somehow modified the vertices, either by separating the geometry or through some other method, and as a result you lost the original vertex order, or you added new geometry. It has to be one of those two.
The geometry itself, including the vertex index, the count, and everything related, must match exactly. Moving the UVs around is perfectly fine, but changing the vertex order will cause an error when you try to re-import it.

Sun, Jul 26It’s a geograft with 2 geoshells. It’s really strange, I didn’t change a thing that I know of. The Uv islands look just like the 2 texture maps that come with the product. It may be in the export from daz. I want to be able to export g9 with the graft as a single texture set udim so I can edit textures seamlessly

Sun, Jul 26For what it’s worth, if your goal is to have a single UDIM for Substance, then you don’t need to import a new UV maps into DAZ.
Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but for me, for example, when I export my sculpt from Blender to Substance, I simply delete all materials from the object, then add one single material and assign all vertices to it, and export that object with one single material set into Substance. I’ll paste an example screenshot below.

What I want is g9, the graft and a prop in substance as one texture set under one material so I can paint scene specific special effects. The olden palace textures sit on the same tile as g9s face as well as the prop. You must move them off of those tiles to thier own in order to output custom textures other wise textures will be on top of one another.

Sun, Jul 26Most people don’t get notified unless you reply within a reply to their post. You do get notified when others post, but not for anyone else interacting with your post. I just thought I’d mention that.
To answer what you’re looking for, if the geometry you’re exporting has all the tiles collapsed, it might be because you have “Collapse UV tilesenabled when exporting to OBJ. Unless the geometry doesn’t use UDIMs (and I don’t know how the Golden Place UVs are set up). If it doesn’t, then yes, you’ll need to shift them manually. But still, for all the UDIMs to show as one single material in substance painter, what I showed above is what you’ll want to do.

Sun, Jul 26It's also important to note, that it seems you trying to solve multiple problems at the same time.
1. Exporting golden palace, which seems to use shells (you shouldn't export it attached to G9, but the stand alone figure).
2. The export settings and format (OBJ preferred, double check collapse uv tiles aren't ticked)
3. How to get a single material in substance painter, otherwise you can't paint across materials easily.

Sun, Jul 26Sorry about the reply thing, I forget lol. Yep no collapse uvs checked. I’m not exporting it with g9 but in order for the true uvs to show it must be attached. I just export only the selection. I mean the shell comes into Blender clean as can be with a perfect Uv island, but it’s on the 1001 tile, which is g9s head. I populate a tile up, grab the Uv with all selected, use the y constrain and hit 1 to move it up perfectly. Keep in mind these are geoshells, so not really geometry in the true sense.

Sun, Jul 26I think someone with more experience with shells should reply. I must admit I haven't work with them much. But, it seems what you are exporting is the UV set from Golden Palace, otherwise the tile would match that of G9 body (1002) and legs (1005). But I doubt the original geometry of Golden Palace's UV set has more than one tile, therefore, it would always be 1001, not really meant to match genesis UVs.
Just a thought (brainstorming like), I don't truly know.

Hmm, it's very early in the morning here; I've only had one cup of coffee so far and I'm not wearing my glasses... but have you found the error yet?
If not: how do you export Golden Palace? With SubD or without? Actually, all objects that are to be imported back into DAZ later must be exported without SubD. So set the 'Mesh Resolution' to 'Base' and set the following two settings (iterations?) to '0'. Maybe this works.
Good luck

Mon, Jul 27Ahh! Solution. All I have to do is export g9 and the graft to blender, adjust uvs, export to SP, paint, export maps, load maps in daz. No need to update any uvs in Studio. Yay!!!
Haven’t found it yet. I did have it set to base and 0 on view and render subs. It’s funny, you have to have it applied to g9 for the uvs to show up like the maps it comes with. If you export it unattached the Uv are totally different. If only you could paint in studio like SP but then it wouldn’t be free.

Exactly.
I shouldn't answer forum questions so early with several browsers open!
