AI? (CLOSED)

I see it's a "Render Contest" but I see nothing specific re: AI. Given DazStudios disqualified a piece recently because it was AI, I thought I would ask.

It's not explicitly stated in this one, no. But you will suffer a lot of community backlash for it.

Thu, Oct 13, 2022If you read through the sticky thread for this contest, it has been stated:
"I talked to the owner today, and we have a simple solution to the potential problems caused by AI generated images. Moving forward, all contests are going to require a gray-shaded or wireframe image to go along with their final render. That requirement should take care of that."
That was directly in response to the AI posts in the last two. So you MIGHT be able to squeeze one in this contest.

Thu, Oct 13, 2022Lol I'm not entering any AI images anywhere. I was only asking out of curiosity, because of what happened at Daz. And then the lack of a direct statement on the contest rules page.

Thu, Oct 13, 2022Why do people hate AI? And what does it even do? I've only recently heard of this.

Thu, Oct 13, 2022Oh! Didn't know I should have posted a wireframe picture. On my entry I generated the base maps for the 3D models with the help of AI.
Hope that is ok.
And thank you for pointing that out.

And thank you for pointing that out.
If you want some crash courses in AI art check out "analog_dreams" channel on YouTube, he covers several AI art engines and how to use them. And there is more uses to them then just art. I am currently making seamless tiled ground textures with the free Stable Diffusion engine. And spell effects and backgrounds with Nightcafe and MidJoruney. And just started toying with Dalle2. And that's just a few of the main ones out there, there are several more.
But to address the question why do people hate AI? I don't hate AI, I like it actually. What I HATE are people that use it for spam and to abuse systems. Such as with this last art contest. It's like saying why do you hate emails? It's not that one hates emails, it's we all hate spam.
Why should an image that the author took no direct action in its composition and created [generated let's be clear] in just a couple of minutes over a person who spent hours or days putting a 3d scene together? That's why we asked for clarification. Because the guy who did submit AI images here submitted like 8 or more. Nobody else submitted that many or probably could in that amount of time. That's spam. Take Deviantart for example which is now flooeded with AI generated stuff, because you can literally use systems like NightCafe to type in a phrase of 3 keywords, click generate and if you like it you click publish. Publish to like directly your Social media accounts and things like deviantart gallery...But worst then that, without changing ANY of the keywords from the original, you can push the button Create again with a new seed and get similar but completely different image. Publish, generate publish, generate publish...and I see this shit too it's happening, they will crank out 100's of similar images to the gallery in an hour. That is abuse and spam. - and should be treated as so.
Swhew...rant over...So like I said I don't hate AI art.. I hate the people abusing it.

Fri, Oct 14, 2022Because the lowest prizes are $25, so that's the minimum amount of effort you should put in.

Fri, Oct 14, 2022I did put in a bit more than $25 on mine, the gravel for the traintrack is actual 3d objects I picked up because the default was just a flat plane with a gravel texture and not very convincing. The tanker car is also picked up elsewhere as a FBX which I had to remove the ladder from the side in Rhino3d because it was getting in the way of the graffiti. Lastly I wanted him to have a grungier can of paint that looked more like a well-used Kyron paint can..all about $30. But those are assets I can always continue to use in the future when needed. But of course all the other things in everyones scenes also filled with items they have purchased and assembled into their scenes. You get several free credits on all the major AI engines each month, or hell get Stable Diffusion fully free. I've determined (about 90% so) this one guy did use MidJourney.
And to rant just a tad more..Daz themselves have been doing this exact same thing of random art generation to create NFT collections. They are using more in house systems for creating images using their library of assets inside of the Daz engine that are not AI or AI heavy but are still just random generators or what are technically called spinners. And many others are doing the same to crank out a ton of shit for the sole purpose of selling as NFTs..

That's fine, NFT's are no skin off my hide..but flooding a gallery or spamming a contest that isn't intended for AI submissions..that's not cool.

The others have pretty much answered your question, but I'll re-post what @korpinsulat said above - with a small addition...

The addition is that you might be able squeeze one into this contest - but if the judges pick it, by chance, it will be disqualified.
The owner very much wants to keep the contests at RenderHub in the spirit of the 3D community they are intended for.

Fri, Oct 14, 2022I'm not sure if you're responding to me or not. Just in case you are, I'll reiterate what I told @korpinsulate
