I recently wanted to enter a really good entry into one of the contests here at the Hub but found that the forum doesn't support WEBP or GIF animations, so I can't enter apparently or at least not with an animated version of my image. While I could see where these two formats are not necessary for the Gallery section and maybe not for the standard forum either, lack of this option does seriously hinder entries into the contests. Perhaps offering a separate contest upload that has that feature would be better than using the forum for it. Anyway, requesting something or some way to utilize WEBP and GIF animations here.

Hi HevieState3D! I sent a message to the support asking about that some months ago, they said that images like gif and webp are disabled because of a security vulnerability where people could embed malicious code within them.

Sat, Apr 15, 2023A valid point I think but for contest entries - it seems like we'd get a special upload portal maybe? In other words just a special page to upload your entry rather than having to do it in the forum. Like a feature for allowing you to upload it to your own gallery for example? I don't know. I just made a really cool animated entry for the NO AI contest but I can't enter it because of this block and method. I wonder if we could enter by embedding a file uploaded to an outside server? Lots of options I think - we just need one or something. Thanks for posting!

. Your animated version is too short? I remember i saw on the last contest a entry that the person uploaded a static version in JPG and a short animated version in a Youtube video format. Maybe you could participate that way too, what you think?

@justanother3dartist is correct. That's what I have been told by our coders. But that doesn't mean it's never going to happen.
