Looking for laptop (CLOSED)
78hello,
I am architect/visualizer and am looking for a laptop as I prepare for a 3-6month trip
I mostly do high quality medium sized projects with 3-4k output (cpu rendering)
I was wondering if anyone has experinece with the new i9 13900/80hx and amd's 7945hx,
I am trying to understand if I can depend on the laptop for rendering or I will still have to do most of my renderings on my desktop with teamvier etc
Currently I am looking at
1.scar Asus ROG Strix G17 G713PV-DS94 17.3" (Ryzen 9-7945HX) (which might be to heavy for travelling but at sthe same time I will have another workstation when I get back from the trip) or
2.ASUS ROG Strix G16 (2023) (Intel Core i9-13980HX) or
3. XMG NEO 16 (would be interested to hear any personal experience with this one, considering the OASIS cooling it be made into a proper workstation without all the far noise once I get back)
4. Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16irx8 I9 13900hx 16" IPS 240Hz (i9-13900HX)
or from the moment I will not be able to do my rendering on the go any suggestions for a lighter laptop
ps: I am located in europe so I not all options are available like in US
Sorry for the long post, any input is welcomed, thanks in advance

I'm not buying those high end laptops but have owned a couple. I finally realized how pissy I was getting cos I couldn't just pop the thing open and change out components cos they're all soldered on. At that price I should be able to yank the graphics card out, the CPU and the ram and adjust to my wishes. If not, then you might as well be using a Mac cos you're locked into the manufacturer's sandbox.
But, I do watch a few channels for reviews and issues, including a repair shop and I've seen a lot of ROG laptops on his bench. I'm not saying they're bad, but they are like most rigs and can have problems. And repairing a laptop like that requires a tech who can do micro-soldering, which is NOT cheap.
But, the consensus points to an AMD based rig with a 40 series graphics card for some real punch. For me it was always
screen real estate; I want a big monitor or the laptop is useless to me. Those 15 inch screens are, for me, useless garbage.
Hmmm.... I'd actually go for the Lenovo Legion although even that one has had some complaints but also a lot of praise. I just trust
Lenovo a lot more than Asus to be honest. I've seen the corporate side of Asus over the years and well, I'd just as soon kick the entire board up and down
the street for a while in public then toss them in the stocks with signs saying "All they care about is power and money, NOT YOU!"

Wed, May 03, 2023I am also a desktop PC user, for
*) add internal hard drive
*) to be able to change some elements myself
*) have a more powerful machine for the same price (miniaturization has a cost)
The only interest of a portable is that it is easily transportable and if I understood well it is the reason for which our alrender seeks a portable.
