Not sure if anyone else has noticed this.
When uploading gallery images they seem all washed out colors.
I render at 3300x4200
Renderhub resizes to 18862400
I originally thought I uploaded the wrong picture. This is the only sight where the color seems off.

Looks like it caps at 2400 either direction. That may have something to do with it IDK.
Didn't notice that until just now TBH.

Sat, Jul 22, 2023You might be right.
Might be what they use to convert the images. The skin tones and brightness are off.
The Marie rose I posted has yellow lips they supposed to be pink lol.
Thanks for the reply MK

@CosmicEnvisions - I'm not the tech person, but I do know the system is doing some some resizing / converting.
However, it shouldn't be affecting colors - we certainly wouldn't want that.
Can you please email me a few samples of your original images that have problems after uploading?
I'll download the corresponding images from your gallery here and take a look at the differences.
I will open a bug report and forward everything to our tech guy and the owner.
Please send them to support@renderhub.com - Thank you!

If they're too big for an email attachment, could you upload them to Google Drive or somewhere?

Wed, Aug 02, 2023I have the same problems. When I added the images everything was fine, but the next day I noticed that the colors had changed. The dimensions were 1909x3000. I already understood that RenderHub has size restrictions, the size is compressed and clarity is lost, but I did not expect a color change. The face turns yellow, especially the lips. What is especially unpleasant, the images for the competition are spoiled.
I wrote to technical support yesterday, although the problem has not been completely eliminated, there are nuances with the color, but the lips no longer turn yellow.
Sent an image to the email.

Sent emails too.
Wait and see if it can be fixed.
Thanks thought I was imagining it.
Staring at one image for days sometimes weeks you pick up on slight changes.

Can i ask a silly question?
here it is: "what is the point of making an image larger than 1886x2400 pixels?"
To print it I understand, but to watch on a PC screen?

Wed, Aug 02, 2023Not a silly question.
I plan on printing some images, possibility of selling in the future. Haven't got around to printing them yet.
I personally like studying other people's work, I look at the fine details. Save and zoom. Small images can't see those details. I try to learn from it.
I've also reworked some larger images into smaller ones, I personally find it easier to see with clarity.
Takes me way long to create somethings, but I'm fine with that.
Personal preference I guess.
I see your point of view and its valid.
Not every one just views them, some study them

Aside from that, some of us use renders for desktop backgrounds.

Sat, Aug 19, 2023Personally I don't really see a difference, so either it's my eyes, I haven't been 20 for a very long time, or it's the quality of my screen, like me it's not very young anymore

Sat, Aug 19, 2023I'm not the tech person, but I downloaded these two images to take a look at them.
I see when the system is doing whatever it does, it is saving PNG images in indexed color mode and JPG as RGB.
I come from a photography background, and I know I would never want my photographs converted to indexed color.
That might very well be what's causing these problems.
Can you try saving your original work as a JPG and upload that here to see what happens?

I also did some tests on my own images - PNG vs JPG.
Yep... The system is definitely processing PNG differently from JPG.
Thank you for doing that. I will forward the findings to the owner and tech people.

Couple more tests to see if there's a work around for those who want png.
Then I think that covers the testing.

I did also experience the issue yesterday. Some colors getting paler after upload and/or especially after reuploading an image. I did upload an image and recognize that the lips of the character are too pale. So I did make them pinker by changing the hue and raising the saturation in Gimp. Then I reuploaded the image and everything looked fine for the first few minutes. But then, approx. 15 minutes later, the lips of the character were pale again. I did upload the edited image again and again and it always made the lips pale again approx. 15 minutes after (re)upload. There seems to be some kind of color correction script on the server's side that runs after upload, but doesn't work correctly.
And yes, the image was a PNG when I did upload the image for the first time. But the edited version I did reupload again and again was a JPG. But it still seems to be related to PNG, because although the reuploaded file was a JPG, it keeps the PNG format after reupload. When you right click on the render in order to open it in a new browser tab or in order to download the image to your local computer, you can see that the file has still a PNG extension. So it seems that the server application not only incorrectly converts the colors, it also always converts the file format to the one of the initially uploaded image.
I could generally limit my uploads to JPG format in the future, but in some cases I need to use PNG, because especially when you have single-colored backgrounds JPG causes ugly color banding artifacts due to the limited bpc value of only 8 bits per channel. So the better solution would be to fix the issue with the color correction on the server's side.

I also have the impression that the issue only occurs when reuploading an already uploaded PNG image, because I did upload another PNG image few weeks ago and the issue with the paler colors didn't occur. But I never reuploaded that image. It's still the initial upload and it looks fine.

Sun, Aug 20, 2023I'm going to try updating my gallery post. I'll let you know how I go.
It's strange that the 400x400 png image above didn't change the lips a different color.
I'm going to resize my png image for my gallery and give that a go first, see if that's the issue as well..
Not sure if renderhub resizes your images when you upload them?
It be nice to have it fixed, there's a possibility that may never happen lol.
Will keep you updated on the tests.
Thanks for the info you provided

Mon, Aug 21, 2023No, the server didn't resize my images. Obviously my images are not large enough and don't exceed the size limit where the server starts resizing. So the issue also occurs when the server does not resize the image. But it would be nice to know if you also only face the issue when you reupload a PNG file or if you also experience the issue at first, initial upload.
@Foxy 3D
"I come from a photography background, and I know I would never want my photographs converted to indexed color."
Then please keep the server's script from doing exactly that. Perhaps this is the reason for the issue?

Mon, Aug 21, 2023I strongly assume that it has something to do with the indexed color for PNG files. That also explain why the issue obviously only occurs when you reupload the image and not at initial upload. Because once the indexed colors are fixed, they cannot be changed anymore afterwards. That would also explain why the lips I made pinker afterwards, get pale again after reupload whereas other pink areas that were already pink at initial upload look fine.
Uploaded marie rose to my gallery again as a JPG 3300x4200
@Ghatanothoa was right
When saving the file it still is a PNG

(I posted this in the wrong forum lol, my bad)
I see this has been brought up, just reposting what I sent here now.
Greetings
I have a question concerning renders being down sampled when uploaded on the site, not sure if others have noticed but id assume its every image uploaded, could be wrong and its only 4K images.
Images at 4k (3840 x 2160) get down sampled to 2800x1575

Also it adds in grain, a bit of fringing, blur and what looks like banding of certain colors and saturation reduction. Which is why in my entries ive put a link to the full resolution 4K image as when you look at it, its noticeable, well at least to me.
Below I've uploaded the image and shown these mentioned issues, even the eyes are orange, meant to be red, amongst other things.
Link to image : Comparison (imgbb.com)
Its just that if a person renders a final image at gets a viewable 100% quality he or she desired for the purpose intended, then lose about 30% of that quality by uploading it on the site (resolution reduction and image degradation) its a bit semi productive to the outcome of what its meant to be and takes away hours of work tinkering to get a desired effect.
Thanks for you time
C.I
Update - I noticed something that could help find the issue, weird issue though lol..
My render (4K) when uploaded to the contest forum down samples to 2800x1575
The same render uploaded to my gallery yesterday down samples to 2400x1350 yet from what i can see, no color degradation lol.. weird
